Well, my McMillan A5 stock showed up today (Thanks JWPrecision); actually two of them showed up. With the stock and my Bartlein barrel (CyberK), I have the parts the my smith (Lyle Linkaitis - Ultimate Accuracy) was waiting for to start my build.

After talking to some of the local area smiths (ATRS), I finally got my s**t together and started sourcing parts for a build. Originally thinking I was going to go with ATRS (sorry guys wasn't trying to be a tire kicker ;)) I ended up going back to Lyle because he does great work (3rd rifle with him) and his prices are unbelievable :D He is going to use a PTG fluted bolt in a trued Rem 700 action with a KPA 20 MOA base, VBull DM Mag System, TPS rings, and a Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56mm P4F to top it off. Now it's just waiting for the gun to get built! When it is done I will post some pics and maybe a range report - Dang life is good...

Hi Glock4,
How long did it take to get that stock in, if you don't ind my asking?
I am thinking of putting together a .300wsm in a similar stock.
Look forward to seeing it.
Thx.

It also depends on if John has it in stock. If he does it is fast otherwise you have to wait 6 months. Here is my other rifle stock I got: I put it into the action but it needs to be pillar bedded and freefloated.

It is missing the 10 rd mag but you get the idea... This is my other rifle that Lyle built - .308 Win, Trued action, Greg Tanner firing pin/bolt shroud, Rifle Basix LV-1 trigger, Hart 1-10" barrel (varmint contour), VBull DM system and McMillan A5 stock topped with Custom Leupold TMR 3.5-10x40mm FFP M2 Scope. I think I am going to get the .338 LM painted all black and keep this one OD. I used to think that the Remington Varmint contour was heavy but the Heavy Varmint Contour puts this one to shame.

Bartlein barrel ran me 425 shipped (Sweet deal!)

My feet are part of the build - a rifle is only as good as the shooter! :p

Here is an updated picture of my .308.

Changed the rings back to TPS and put the mag in for looks! I am impressed with the McMillan spacer system: loosen two screws in the decelerator pad, slide the spacer out and voila it is shorter. The screws are the exact same size as the action screws so you only need to carry the one allen key to completely take your rifle down/adjust the stock.

It is a LA Rem 700. Originally, I was going to buy a 700 Lapua Mag but the only thing I wanted off of it was the action so Lyle told me it would be better to use a LA and PTG bolt as the bolt would be fitted to the action better then using a factory one - I believe he said that it was because he could fit/cut the lugs/bolt to the action specific.

Looks and sounds like it is going to be a great rifle!

Contrary to what some would want us to think you don't have to spend 6k to own a custom .338 Lapua!

Can't wait to see the pictures when it is done.

I just wish that PTG would make a LH bolt for the 700- Oh well maybe in the future...

No, Lyle can ream any caliber but I chose a LM; the edge is a great caliber but I wanted a LM for the brass that is available. Lyle is in Manitoba.

Any contact, I will give it a try, I wouldn't mind paying good money to good gunsmith, Thank

You won't

be disappointed in Lyle's work.

I have not had anything done by him as of yet and I would not be scared to . He shoots shortrange benchrest and is PRETTY DARN GOOD at it. Smith's his own benchrest guns and shoots well with them so I think he knows what he is doing.

I don't know about keeping it under 6K (the scope is darn expensive) but I don't mind I know Lyle will build a sweet shooter. Sent the parts out to him Sat and should get to him this Wed. Damn the hardest part is waiting...
