POLICE ARE REMINDING HUNTERS THAT THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRINING ANIMAL REMAINS OUT OF THE BUSH AND PROPERLY DISPOSING OF THEM.

In BC you are required to keep and utilize "all edible portions" of black bears, the same as any other big game animal.

"Ultilize" ?

In BC, it is unlawful to kill wildlife (with the exception of grizzly bear, cougar or a fur bearing animal other than a black bear) and fail to remove from the carcass the edible portions of the four quarters and loins to the person’s normal dwelling place or to a meat cutter or the owner or operator of a cold storage plant.

After doing so, there is nothing to stop you from legally disposing of the stinky worm infested stuff. Dumping on a school ground doesn't work, nor would leaving it at the end of your neighbours driveway with a "FREE" sign on it.

I am sure you would have a hard time arguing that sending it to the dump or burying it in the yard after bringing it home didn't violate the spirit of the law. Good luck with that.

Happens all the time. In regards to Black bears, it's a stupid law to appease some high profile anti-hunting groups that were active om the 90's. Worm infested bear sare common, but are also "edible", but not for every pallet.

We have too many bears on Vancouver Island, the newish law has curtailed much of the hunting. I don't think too many guided bears make it to the table.
