So I was at TSE today and got talking with a local Sheriff Dept officer. He was having trouble with his G22 locking open with half a mag left. It happened more than once and he said it had been in to the their armorer with no success. Any insight? He was gong o get more new mags to try, but it peaked my curiosity. No Glock bashing please, only pertinent answers. In case my G22 has the same problem later in life.

My best guess would be a loose slide stop? Perhaps it's bouncing up from recoil and catching the slide.

Maybe, if the slide stop spring is worn out. Or he could be shooting thumbs forward and riding the slide stop up - I see that frequently with both the service Browning and the Sig 229 when I'm out with the local OPP guys and gals...

Is it a Gen 3.5 that's been fully disassembled lately? This is a common occurrence if the two pins above the trigger have been put back in the wrong order. This places tension on the wire attached to the slide stop, causing it to spring up and catch the slide upon cycling.

Try punching out the two forward pins, from left to right, starting with the top (skinnier) pin, and pull out the slide stop. Then put the skinnier pin back in first, from right to left. Line up the slide stop, and then put in the fatter pin. This should alleviate the problem, assuming it's not an issue of the shooter's thumb riding up and engaging the slide stop.

I shoot thumbs forward, with 10mm no less, lots of recoil. Never had this problem. I would describe myself as a novice as well. I'd hope the "sheriff" wouldn't have such bad technique.
