I've been speaking to BigRed. We have talked about doing some Training classes. I notice people have been signing up in droves for a number of companies that are offering training. Having been asked previously to do some teaching in Canada, I am conducting some limited market research of CGN'ers.

I generally avoid training in Canada (outside of when I was in the Army) due to the generally stupid Firearms laws in Canada. However while I still feel it is stupid for soldiers and police to train with neutered mags etc, it does make sence for civilians.

And with a 5rd carbine mag - it would make for some really unusual CQB drills - then I thought of the positives, which would force the student to AIM, (the whole aim more shoot less concept we have been trying to stress over the last two years) .

Neither John (BigRed) or I are currently setup as a Firearms Business - so this would either be in conjunction with a mature company in Canada (and board sponsor), or a longer term thought. In the last 4 years we have each spent the majority of our time in Iraq or Afghanistan, filling the leave blocks with some rather interesting training classes.

I am more interested in the sort of training people may find interesting. While I would love to offer Force on Force Sims training - Simunition is not civilian friendly.

As well we are hoping to leverage Larry Vickers into coming up for some classes and a 1911 pistolsmithing class.

Hmmm, I think it would be a terrific experience to get some real training from professionals who are basically still in the field and operating where the real evolution is occuring. As far as the type of training goes, most shooters (me included) never get any real world training because it's really un-PC (especially in Canada) to train for a six inch to twenty foot hand gun fight. This includes Police Officers from what I've seen - I've yet to see a police officer at the range practising speed rocks with a ticket book in one hand. As well, while shooting a carbine (any carbine) at 300m is practised pretty regularly and taught/ discussed pretty regularly, not a lot of training that's available in Canada goes into the 50 yard or less environment. Again, PC gets in the way. I guess what I'm saying is that since you're familiar with the real world, taylor the training to that, rather than watering it down because it may be impolite - I'm pretty sure the two of you can handle that :D. Also as far as a Vickers 1911 'smithing course goes, fantastic idea (I might have to mortgage the wife)

Here in campbell river. I would definitely be interested in the opportunity to get some help with skills from someone who knows the drill.

In.

Slick mag changes are surely a signature of any Canuk.

What part of the country were you thinking of Kevin? I know there are at least 10 guys I could leverage into this type of training in Ontario (Ottawa to London). Geared up and ready to go.

Assuming I get a discount for being so damn good looking.

Well now. I guess I get it for free then... :D

What kind of rifle would be the requirement. Would we be restricted to AR's or would a Tavor work for the course? I would be interested in a course held in Alberta preferably Edmonton.

I'm back in Edmonton for a few months if trainig is in the area I'd be in. Always good to be updated once in a while. I'm sure some of your friends from the battalion would show up also.

Any place that:

1. Has enough guys to justify a course
2. Has a range that is comfortable with realistic training being conducted
3. Has beer and strippers.

Any sort of reliable rifle/carbine would be acceptable. Train with what you plan on using, whether that's in your home or at work.

What if you dont know jack s**t about anything but would like to do this anyway?

Can we still play?
