I got my new to me R55 today that I found on the EE. Wow what a rifle. I can say now with experience that these guns are well worth the money. I had heard concerns of feed problems, picky with ammo, etc. and that is not what I have found. I took it out to see how it cycled with a fanny pack of the years left over .22 lr ammo. I had about 1500 rounds of every type of .22 mixed in there as my BL22 is not a picky gun. As I loaded the mags it was without prejiduce, so what ever was grabbed is what went in the mag.
The very first trigger pull was a light strike and my heart jumped ..... then for the next 200 - 300 rounds not a single issue. I think that the first round was my error in being gentle with the cocking cycle. I managed to fire many many rounds until I realized the the scope mounts were not torqued down and the scope was coming loose. There were even some gophers that came up in the Indian Summer that we are having here ( +25 ) and I managed to tag a few of those before heading home. So now I get to clean it up and torque down all the gear and go out again on Sunday to sight it in.
This gun is the Classic R55 that has the 22" barrel, I was really wanting the Benchmark with the heavy barrel but this gun is so well balanced that the farmer where I shoot offered to trade his 10-22 and cash for it. The trigger pull is very smooth, especially compared to a BL22, and the cycle is awesome. It would go through the 5 round mag as if it was a single shot. My four year old was along as well and he really enjoyed the fast semi auto feel when he was shooting the pond.
I also think that the long barrel may give the .22 a little more push before leaving the barrel.
Oh well I just thought I would share my excitement with my new to me toy.
