Rusted crusty receiver on a Marlin

I don't know if this is applicable in this case, but a friend who in in auto body repair advised me not to allow any repair shop to work on my car if they were using grinders or wheels to remove rust etc.
He claimed all you were doing was smoothing good metal over the rust pits etc and getting the appearance of good metal, but pockets of rust still existed under the newly smoothed good metal.
He only sandblasted.

Yes, I forgot about that rifle. How is that Marlin doing? Any new pics to show the finished product?
If you did not get around to it yet, my offer to give it a light sand blasting stilll stands if you feel like mailing your reciever to Montreal.
This can be true but the prevelance of utilizing grinders to prep/contour/clean crucial weldments in industry leads me to believe that a proper surface can be achieved.
A more serious hazard associated with grinders for surface prep can be surface cracking caused by heat and stress risers.
Ever try to sandblast large portions of rust on a car? Your car will have sand packed in every nook and crevice, even when plastic is used over he entire car. That $hit gets everywhere a proper surface can be acheived with grinders when used properly and there is no pitting.
If there is any pitting then a patch is the only solution anyways.
