Contemplating shooting #4 buckshot out of my 870. Any suggestions on choke size? Ranges to be in the 25 - 50 yd range. Was thinking of an xtra full. Have no experience with this type of shot size. I have lots to load.

Smaller buckshot generally likes tighter chokes...to a point. I think the sweet spot for #4 buck in most guns would be somewhere between a Modified and Full choke. Just keep in mind that no matter how tightly you get it to pattern #4 buck is rather inconsistant in penetration at a distance.

Your right about the preference for tighter chokes, but it is wishful thinking to expect a consistent kill for anything larger than a bunny at 50 yards. Great for cats at 25:D
