Question for German G/K 43 shooters?

I have a K43 that seems to destroy the brass upon ejection. I was wondering if this is normal as yeterday was the first time I have fired the rifle. The spent casings are bent in on one side at the opening, the rifle seems to be ejecting and feeding properly with no other problems. Today I stripped the rifle as I thought maybe the gas rod was hanging for a second and they might be catching on it but after cleaning and lubing everything it still seems to be wrecking my brass. Any imput from someone with one of these would be appreciated, I will gladly send pics to someone to post as i'm not sure how to do this yet. Mike.

The gas system on the G/K 43 is vastly overpowered for what is needed to operate itself. In addition to wrecking brass, the extra gas will pound the bolt assembly and cause damage to the rear of the reciever.

If you shoot a G/K43, I would HIGHLY recommend getting an Apfeltor shooting kit for it. It allows you to limit the gas pressure. In addition to limiting damage to the action, you will probably find it is easier on brass as well. It sure did with the G43 I used to have. Here is the Apfeltor site:

steve1973 is correct. My qve45 K43 used to chew up brass and barf it out, I think I had one whole casing that was reloadable out of probably 200 rounds. So like Mr steve said, "Get a shooters kit!" BTW, a great site for anything G43/G41 related is to check out the G/K43 shooters forum,

You can minimise the gas pounding problem but not eliminate it, bu handloading with fast powders like the military used to use.

Gas-port problems exist with all gas-op rifles, the K.43 being the worst I have worked with myself....... but they're sure fun when they work right.

Is your concern about reloading but can't because of the buggered cases?

If you remove the piston ass'y and replace it with a stainless steel plug, you bypass the semi auto function and will have to cycle the bolt handle like a repeater with your hand. Less wear and tear on the receiver and cheaper than the Apfeltor shooters kit!

Then you negate the point of using a semi. You might as well just use a K98

For brass preservation it's a cheap solution as well as less hammering on the receiver.

Don't forget, there was a K43 Sniper Prototype that had a gas selector cutoff switch, either semi as usual or gas cut off and 1 shot at time as a repeater for more accuracy.
