Czech 7.62x39 now banned in Canada! WTF? False alarm, all is well.

Yeah there doesn't seem to be any written confirmation on this... I'm startin to feel like this is all just a sick joke. I'm hoping it is... cause my SKS gets here before the end of the month.

I'm betting they did the bait and switch - like with needing a range membership for restricted ATT's. When I started you didn't need range membership, then Hey, someone mentioned they had to get their membership to renew their ATT, then another, then another.

Bam, I needed a range membership.

Still no one can find the law that says you need one, they just harass and slow you down until you do it to be left alone.

I think we need to clean house.

Yeah we really shouldn't be taking this ####. They take away 7.62x39, the fan on the ceiling will get dirty..... with turd.

CanAm, what's your tel. number?

I suggest that legal action is in order. We have Lapua products that they won't approve, although they have been previously and 6.5X47L ammo and others are not approved despite jumping thruogh many hoops.

Can you imagine, Lapua ammo not meeting their standards!? Good enough for DND, Biathlon Canada and top shooters around the world, but it's not safe!?

One person at NRCAN I spoke with had no idea what CIP was!

We'll enjoin legal action.

As far as I know, retail shops around Vancouver are still selling 7.62x39. And I know some of them won't let their stock go willingly....

It is there, in black and white in their own guide, Page 93:

Sellier and Bellot, Prague, Czech Republic:
Centerfire Rifle Cartridges.

ERD has seen that they made a "mistake" in not listing the individual caliber of the various rounds. Do not let them make us pay for their own mistake.

He is head of the ERD and let him know that this is completely bogus and must be dealt with quickly, unless they want to lose the good relationship they have with their stakeholders, which is us.

Letter on the way...

So I just got a call from NRCAN saying we are to stop selling or advertising Czech 7.62x39! I asked why our previous permits were approved. No answer. He said no one in Canada was ever allowed to sell it to the public! These guys are on crack.

He said they were working their way through the list of dealers to notify them. He apparently just got off the phone with another local importer who was told to remove his stock from sale.

Welcome to Canada.

Seriously? This is all based on a phone call from someone claiming to be an authorized NRCan employee, and they are "working their way through a list"?

No official letter detailing what is expected, just a phone call huh?

Sure sounds legit - keep those letters rolling.

Island Outfitters price is $267.00 a case $300 with tax. $5.99/20pk

No its not. I sent an email to them after reading this last night. I was quoted $280/case plus taxes and shipping. I figured it out and would be paying close to $400/case. THAT is BS. My SKS will collect dust and rot before i pay that amount for ammo.

Questions to ask of the person phoning:
- What is your full name?
- do you have an employee number?
- what is your direct line phone number, email address?
- who is your superior?
- what is their number and email addy?
- when will they issue this order in writing, on official letterhead?
- what are the exact reasons for this decision?

I'm sure we could think of some more...

:dancingbanana: I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with the NFA regarding the 7.62x39 sellier and bellot ammo not being allowed for sale in Canada and it was a mistake and they are working on correcting this error. So it can Be sold in Canada. The explosives and regulatory devision in the government screwed up. As I was typing the I also got a call from them apologizing for there error and its the 7.62x54R thats banned in Canada. :dancingbanana:

Right. Any way to recall those letters?

As for the 7.62x54R, that makes sense. Marstar stopped selling it last year and still isn't, but several other dealers suddenly started about a month ago. Hmmm - did they get special, temporary permission, or what??

wow what a thread, it gose from WTF to really?? to that cant be, then OMG,
then it settels down with an apoilgy from a faceless berocracy, what a hollywood movie.

Yes.. the combination of this post and the last week of stock market activity suggest we all need to buy a few more crates - let us know when you have more CanAM ;)

I am glad I only bought 4 crates this morning!:D Good thing they wont go to waste! One of the London gunshops has 9 crates left in stock if anyone is desperate.
