I picked up a Brno Mauser in 7.62 Nato,it's a matching rifle with the Lion Crest on the receiver with a beech stock.
To find out what the rifle liked I started with 180 Winchester Power Points and they shot 1.25 inches at 100 yards. After that I fired some 180 Hornady's,these grouped just under 2 inches at 100 yards.
Next up was 150 grain Speer BT stoked up with a good load of Varget, they also shot 1.25 inches but at 80 yards after I moved the target.
I will be using this for bush work when it's raining too hard to see through a scope.

Sounds like you're good to go, really. But, you handload, and by your post it looks like you do, have you considered leading some heavy (200-220gr) bullets for your .308 for close range work? I've just worked up some 210 gr Berger VLD loads for my '06 and I'm about to start for my .308 as well. A fellow should be able to get 2400 fps+ with a bullet this heavy, and at close range, it should hit HARD for a .308. Depends on what you were using it for of course. I started looking into heavy, max load 308 and 30-06 loads for my open sighted camp guns to deal with moose and bear.

That's a damn good idea, got any recipes for the 200 grain slugs?

Here's info from Nosler's website for their 200gr partition, which would be my choice in the 200gr weight class.

Do hope the rifling pitch in your barrel is okay for heavyweight slugs. Milspec 12-inch twist really doesn't seem to like things much heavier than 150 and things really go haywire when you're over 165. For heavy slugs, you really NEED that old-fashioned, silly, 10-inch rifling.

I got 180 grainers to shoot into 1.25 inches, so I may get away with the heavy stuff in this rifle. If it shoots 200 grainers then perhaps it does have a 1 in 10 twist......one can hope.:D
