The coolness of cartridges...

Not that any of this matters.... but someone has to stand up for the grandaddy of KOOL.

Code:
30-06
About as UNKOOL as you can get, if housed in a typical bolt action. If it is in a M1 Garand, it gets cool points. If it's a Mdl 1895 Lever action, you are into full on Koolness, and it's about as Kool as a 30-06 will ever be...
Two world wars, a number of "Peacekeeping" and "Police" conflicts, an ark or 20 worth of dead critters, and still competitive ballistics (despite all these new super whizbang magnums).

Kool? KOOL? It's downright ###y! This is the rutting bull of cartridges surrounded by lesser developed and less able mediocrity!

Nothing KOOLER than a Mauser 98 action in 3006.

Now if we are talking uncool....
- all wsm's
- all saums
- all um's
- and especially the Ruger .375 because it wanted to be an H&H when it grew up but never made it so it tries to compensate by...

 :stirthepot2: :nest:

Correct!
Except for the part about the 30-06 being cool, which it's not.

I know that M70 Classic Featherweights are cool, but the .30-06 chambering I had in one was not. Something had to be done. So to try and fit into the CGN "Cool Kids Club", I had it transformed into a .338-06 ;) Now this rifle is totally cool :)

I can't beleive after over 100 posts no one has mentioned two of the newest kool 30's on the block.

The 30 T/C a cartridge that fills the vital niche right between 308 and 30-06

Then there is the ULTRA kool 30RCM....so kool in fact there is no factory ammo in Canada yet. Look out this is going to be the new "KING" of 30's.

how about:

257 Roberts in a Oberndorf Mauser, 280 Rem in an A-bolt and 358 Win in a BLR (steel reciever)?

I have one of each and I think they are pretty cool

Sigh... I guess the venerable, dependable, trusted, and able 3006 is not KOOL. ;)

All it has going for it is 100 + years longevity and a high degree of functionality.

At the range this year I saw the coolest cartridge. It was cool becuase the guy who shot it was soooooooo convinced it was the be all end all round.

He called it. THE 300!

The 300

Winchester

Short

Mag!

The way he paused between each word certainly added to the cool factor. Man, you would not belive what this round was capable off. Not so much then and there in his hands but theoretically.

I asked if he reloaded and he said:

"Don't need to with the 300!"

Cool!

Wow that is cool!! I am surprised this guy doesn't get panties flung at him just for owning such a super fly caliber :)

the 30-06 IMHO goes from un kool to Super Cool as soon as you place a 220 grain bullet in it.

The 6.5x55 is only cool if you are standing in front of an enraged elephant loaded with FMJ and fully intending to place one 3 feet deep in brain. Load it with a 140 grain bullet and you slipped into uncool.
Blow out the shoulders to AI and load that same 140 grain bullet and your right back at cool.

So far I am voting Andy's 8x63 as about the coolest cartridge mentioned.

One other favorable mention Kool cartridge is the 300win mag-.311. run a 300 win mag reamer in P14 and instant magnum. that is cool. (finding quality .311 bullets not cool)

The 45/70 government out of a sharps is cool.

- the 45/70 is the Qing of Qool. Out of Sharps, a Marlin or a Ruger #1, no matter (though I do like my levergun). It's like the Methuselah of cartridges.
Oldest cartridge still being commercially loaded, oldest still chambered in modern rifles. And, it can be hand-loaded for anything from Deer to Cape Buffalo, what more can you say?
