Well I did a search on deer licks, plots and what not. There alot of pros and cons about it, no doubt. This year I am trying a few things out. A couple of us are gonna try lots of apples near a couple tree stands, as well we picked up about 7 bags (so far) of sweet corn stuff from TSC, and as well, a couple apple licks, called sweetlix, as well from TSC, that wreaks of mollasses. Has anyone tried something that they say can honestly work, that is available in Ontario. I just dont want to send away to England for this stuff. Either way I will find out in about 3 weeks or so I suppose. Thnx!!

corn and apples work great

mineral licks work but deer usually wont lick them they will dig the dirt around the lick so its a good idea to pour some water over it when you first put it out.

Going by the trail cam pics I have which is pointed at my corn feeder, The deer in my area prefer the corn, then the apples, then a few licks on the salt block. I think its a little late in the season to worry about salt though, they go at it more in the summer.

Apples have always worked well for us. We often help folks clean up thier yards picking up the apples to feed our horses;). They get a clean yard and we get free feed.

go by the local co-op and buy a 100lb bag of corn for less then $10.. the and in the fall when you see those apple trees by the side of the road.. go get some apples.. cheapest and best results I've seen to date..

Believe it or not I've found the deer like my plums better than the apples. My father-in-law has a back yard full of plum tree's and I carry buckets of them out to the stands. I've actually sat and watched the deer pass by the corn feeder and the apples and mow down the plum pile. They actually eat so many of them that they puke them back up. Funny thing is that they spit the pits out when they're done with one. Oh, by the way, bears love them to.....

We are set up in ontario, by parry sound
We have 2 auto feeders filled with corn... one was hung way too low and eaten by a bear last weekend when checked, my other one was working and had lots of use i would say. We had put down 2 piles of c'mere deer and this time I could actually see that a huge pile of dirt and grass was gone where it was and there were hoof prints all in it!
I have a question though, we wanted to add apples the week in november we hunt the site but would fresh apples suddenly appearing scare the deer?
Would it bring a bear around, and if so will deer stay away if there is a bear frequenting my feeder? Also, Will the deer be searching around the leaves to find the scattered corn? I saw that there were 2 chipmunks around picking up corn right at our feet while we refilled the feeder, i wonder if that means the are used to 'animals' around the feeder as they were RIGHT at our feet and not even scared of us!

That's the first I've heard of using either of those, how do you use them?
sorry for the hijack but I'm curious.

I find the better brand peanut butter works best, I think the deer can smell out the additives in the cheap stuff. I smear it all over the base of a tree my camera is attached to. They go crazy over it.
Vanilla is more of a curiosity smell, they just have to come in to see what it is, doesn't hold their attention as long though, brings them in from farther.

My buddies trail cam shot some pics of a black bear snacking on apples and maybe corn as well, according to the time stamp on the pics, a deer came by 15 mins after the bear left. The lingering smell of the bear did not seem to bother it as the deer stayed for some time after.

Chunky or smooth?;) Gonna try it next weekend.

peanut butter will attract everything, I'ver tried it once, mixed a can of peanut butter and about 10lb of corn and set the trail cam up. Had about 15 raccoon there that stayed for about 45 minutes until it was completely gone. Not one deer even got a crumb lol.
