compensating for somthing? :D;)

I take back me previous answer because I just saw the perfect truck gun. Dante in Montreal is selling a used Savage 340 (bolt action/iron sights) in 30-30 win. for something like 250$ With the new leverevolution ammo, this thing would be awsome...

The point of the leverevolution ammo is to be able to use spitzer type bullets on a barrel mag. So you can get the better balistics vs round nose bullets.

So why would one need leverevolution ammo with a detachable box mag in a Savage 340?

A bubbaed #4, preferably with the original iron sights and a loaded mag in the console or glove box.

A removavle mag is so important for a truck gun. Unloading a fixed mag is a pain and the cause of the occassional accident.

Some #4 Bubbas look pretty good.

ive got an old beater 340, and they aint that good. for half the price you can get a bubba'd enfield with a 10 round detachable mag.

plus who cares about leverevolution ammo? the stuff is the cats meow for a tube fed gun, but if your using a bolt action with a box mag, then load whatever the hell you want for a bullet.

Yep, that is just what the doctor ordered!

My (almost) ideal truck gun:
Specs: Stevens 200 action, originally a 22-250
Adams & Bennett Barrel, chambered for 358 win, and trimmed to 18"
Richards microfit safari classic
Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5x28 WA in leupold rings and one peice mount
Load her up with 158 gr JHP and kill coyotes, or 200 gr RN for deer, and the 250 gr speers for the big stuff. One day i will even get some shot capsules and do in some chickens as well. The ultimate in versatility.

it was freshly oiled in that pic, it is a little more matte than that now. And because i have a crew cab, behind the seat is too far away, so it squeezes in between the drivers seat and console (60/40 bench) and is there when i need it. The only way she could be better is with a detachable mag.

If I'm doing drive bys on gophers I prefer a bolt to a semi because the brass ends up going down the vents. Sako quad instead of a modded 10/22. For varmints, a T3 Lite Stainless in .223 and for anything bigger a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 30-06.

Another vote for the Savage 99c in 308. Cant imagine a really better choice.
Got a 6x Nikon on mine. Also my backup gun for my Ruger 30-06.

Thinking about it, I guess I have several truck guns. Depends on where I am going to be and the terrain. If I am just expecting open sight, close range shots I throw my old sportered No1 Mk3 in the cab or my single shot 12 guage and some slugs. Quick and easy to load and lots of hitting power. If I am going somewhere where there is some open terrain where a scope could be handy, I take my Carcano carbine in 6.5X52 that has a 3X9X32 side mounted scope on it though. It's kind of an oddball ugly duckling but it shoots very good and is so short and light in case I have to unexpectedly drag it around the woods half a day. It doesn't shoot like my 6.5 X 55 does but by golly it is a LOT lighter than my Swede I usually lug around! :)

my current trunk gun is a Mosin M44 in a synthetic stock, limbsaver pad and Mojo ghost ring sights.

absolutely bombproof gun. alas, no bayonet - i removed it for the sake of accuracy - but if i run out of ammo i can beat things to death with it.

ideally youd want a stainless gun for your vehicle -- but if you choose blued, then after youve oiled it give it a thin coat of gun grease to protect it.

Maybe I'm missinformed or blind, but I have not seen too many spitzer factory loads for the 30-30 around...
