Tell me about USGI fiberglass stocks....

I've read a lot of accounts about how USGI fiberglass stocks are a nice enhancement for a Norc M-14s. I have a question:

How rigid are they?

I've handled some flimsy plastic stocks on sporting rifles which just don't feel nice to me. I've also handled higher end factory Rem 700's like the Sendero and the Police model. I like those stocks a lot.

I can't decide if I should be trying to track down a USGI fibreglass stock, or maybe a nice laminate stock instead.

do a search on here about replacing the chu wood with fiberglas- however, be also concious of the fact that they're nowhere near as cheap as they used to be-it all depends on your prefernces- there are some guys that have replaced the chu wood with a nice walnut or birch as well, which is what the m14 was originally wore

They are solid. Definitely not like a cheap plastic stock. Heavier than you would guess too.
I'd would say they are a good upgrade. I've been meaning to pick on up for my m14 for quite a while.
Prices are quite high in canada, this is due to the fact that they are getting hard to find. You can import m1a stocks from america, but m14 stocks are not allowed last time I inquired.

usgi fiberglass stocks are nothing like the "zytel" stocks that most synthetics are composed of.
I prefer something a little more custom like these fiberglass custom stocks i have got on my m14 rifles...... made in canada to boot

I dunno if I agree with that, I just picked one up for a pretty good price from the EE. Still might be some available to boot

Here is one of my Poly Tech M14s in a USGI stock that has the rigid rail modification (RRM). Unfortunately, the mod is no longer available.

My semi'd M14 came with a real issue fibreglas stock. It's solid, but I do find the muzzle jump in increased due to the lighter weight. The felt recoil is nothing. It's a very comfortable rifle to shoot. Very good condition, issue, fibreglas stocks with no metal but a forward sling swivel run $34.45 from Gunparts. If you opt for that, you'll need the Canadian import permit so Gunparts can get the U.S. export permit.
I'd have a walnut stock on it in a heart beat if it wasn't an evil CA rifle. It's no M1 Rifle either. Nothing is though.
