So I finally try and take the butt stock off my AR so here are a few things you can all laugh over.

Top screw comes out of the butt stock, "That was easy".:dancingbanana:

SPROING!
"Now where did that spring come out of?"
Digs back in manual,,, "takedown pin spring,,, ahhhhh so".

Slide the butt stock off from the buffer tube. A half hour fight with the buffer tube now commences. Frustration mounts. "In the end, you know I am going to win".

On playing with combo wrench I notice, "Funny how this missing squre here fits right over the knob on the end of the buffer tube so well doesn't it?"
I say this as I rub my hand over all the scarring on the buffer tube I have just made with various tools.:slap:

One good turn on the combo wrench and the buffer spins off freely.
SPROING, ,,again.:runaway:

This time my eyes are ok. (Safety glasses, learned the first time around.)
However I see the buffer retaining pin is now on the garage floor and realize that I would rather wait for the spring in the mail rather than have to dig through my garage.:yingyang:

I suppose having detsroyed AR bits, I now well and truly belong to the black rifle society.

My Name Is Lawn Gnome, and I Have a Problem.

So long as you are all laughing, maybe I can get a question in.
Is there a pin or detent that fits in before I put in the Take Down Pin Spring? or is it just the spring that holds the Take Down Pin in place?

Yes there's a detent that goes in before the spring. It fits in the groove on the takedown pin.

Thanks Big Red.
It will take months of work just to see my garage floor. It'll be easier to add it to my spring order.

there are kits with all the little parts... Or call Mark @ Questar or Mr. Wolverine... Heck Walter may even have a few of them kicking around....

I've lost my share of little parts...

You have probably not lost the detent! The spring tends to travel but the detent stays put unless you turn your lower so that the butt stock area is pointed at the floor! Why did you take it apart in the first place? As a point of interest, I've used ball point pen springs for the buffer tube spring retaining detent spring!!

I have a spring and pin kit from mark at Questar. its just a little insurance just in case something happens while I'm out on a course or something =). I can't remember what brand he brings in - DPMS?

Thanks everybody. Parts in as we speak. I am happier to know I am neither the first nor last.

Now to lay down a towel or something large and clear, so I can find them elusive tiny bits as they fly about.

your not a true black gun owner intill you have lost that spring!
I have put togeather over 100 ar15,s and i cant tell you how many time ive done that :)
