I finally managed to escape work for 3 weeks and will be flying across the atlantic on saturday to visit some of my canadian relatives in North Vancouver. :dancingbanana:
But such a trip just wouldn't be complete for a gunnut without visiting some gun shops. So my question is, if there are any gunshops in the greater Vancouver area you think I must visit. I'm particularly interested in gadgets for my Stag AR15, so I think Joe Dlasks shop will be a good start.

Thanks a lot in advance for any suggestions.

Chris

Reliable Gun and Tackle (Vancouver) is #1 by a wide margin
Wanstalls (Maple Ridge) is newly re-organized to focus on tactical toys and they have a great selection of cool stuff.
Daves Surplus (New West) for all your accessories and gear
Italian Sporting Goods (East Vancouver) is a decent store and have some good specials.
Lock Stock and Barrel in New West is more a consignment shop with some neat stuff from time to time.

Lever Arms is near the corner of Burrard St. and 5th Ave. IF you see the movie theatre (5th Ave.) it is directly across the street from that. You enter from the back. - this is the closest gun shop to downtown.

Reliable Gun & Tackle is near the corner of Kingsway and Fraser - on the West side Fraser about a half block south of Kingsway.

Italian Sporting Goods is on Renfrew Street. If you are at Hastings and Renfrew (the PNE, Pacific Coliseum) go down the hill (going south) and you will see it about 5 blocks down on the east side of the street.

Dave's in in New West. They don't sell firearms but they sell just about everything else - at least in terms of gear and clothing. Various police agencies are outfitted by these guys. If you follow Kingsway East through Burnaby, eventually it turns into 12th Street, New Westminster. Near the corner of 12th Street and (I believe) 8th Ave. you will see their shop.

Hunter's is on 104th Ave. in Surrey. That place really appeared to be circling the bowl last time I went in there (2 weeks ago). I wish them all the best, but when I was in there they had nothing interesting to me. I was going to pick up some 9mm, but they DID NOT HAVE ANY! A guy walks in and asks for some .300 Win Mag. They didn't have that either. The shevles were looking bare. Hopefully they can turn around whatever the problem is over there.

Hunter's has some .300WM and 9mm in stock as of 2 days ago.

O.k., that is good to hear. Kenny told me he had to go over to the distributor to pick up some ammo. I have heard (from a confidential source ;)) that Hunter's has had some negative relationships with some of the distributors. Obviously no one is going to confirm that, and I don't expect them to.

I hope they put the ship back on course. We have relatively few firearms dealers in the Lower Mainland, I want all of them to survive and thrive. Like a lot of people around here I primarily deal with Reliable, but I try to support the other shops as well... especially Dave's and Lever, but I try stop by the others once in awhile too. We need everyone to stay in business.

Now if we can just get a couple more ranges opened...

Hunter's doesn't do itself any favour's by having that one loser work there. Was a complete @#%hole when I asked about "ammo can" that I could lock my ammo in. I don't know why I bothered, they don't have F$%@ all for stock there. I don't need a lesson on legalities etc...I just want the damn product. I can buy a lockable ammo can/box if I friggin' want too! I'll put my toothbrush in it for all he should care. I know the laws. He can go F%#% himself. I'll deal with the supporter's of this site above. (the only exception I make once in a while is Lever)

I was in Hunter's on Tuesday, for the first time. I was dissapointed. It was a nightmare of a store that looked like it had been looted during a Compton riot. I won't be going back.

HA, i my self have never been there, i was going to stop by one day next week, thanks for the heads up vonschmoot .
save my cash on gas

I'm not just joking, it was terrible. If you want to go somewhere good, go to Reliable in Vancouver or Wanstalls in Maple Ridge. But it depends on what you are looking for.

Hunters seemed to be in a lot better shape a few months ago, I went in about a week ago and it sure seems to be getting bare in there.

Last time I was there was around July/August when I bought an Inox Beretta from them. They seemed to be doing well, except for the lack of ammo in calibers I use, but had a good selection of guns.

Dissing them and saying you'll never go back doesn't help though, we need to support gunshops if we want them to survive and not get turned into a Starbucks. Langley lost a good one last month.

I agree, but they have to give us something to work with. Why should customers give a sh*t about a store and continue to patronage the place, if the owners clearly don't. I have the same perspective on Lever Arms.

Where Reliable, Italian and Wanstalls all go out of their way to service thier customers and its evident the moment you walk in and see those stores PACKED with people. Why do you think that every time I have been into Lever Arms it looked like even the employees didn't want to be there.

Even Lock, Stock and Barrel is a great little store, getting gems of consignment and used stuff through there. But what they lack in inventory and new wizz-bang toys, they more than make up for in fair practices, knowledge and customer service.

Great retailers that go out of business for lack of patronage is unfortunate. Bad retailers that go out of business because they don't meet the needs of their market are good for everyone else in the industry.

Hunters is what happens when you dont pay the people that you owe, and i,m not talking not paid on time.
hunters was done the day they sold to the new owners.
I had to call 10 times to get the cheque they owned me on net 30days.
Hunters will not last much longer.

As far as Greater Vancouver Gun Shops go we have only 3 worth dealing with IMHO.

1. Wanstalls - GREAT new owners
2. Reliable - A great family store
3. Italian - Lots of stock, "spotty" service IMO (better if you are a Pizano I'm sure)

Dunno. Went in there to get some ammo and a couple odd things. Staff was helpful and not intimidating/"hurry up and buy something or get out". Got the best deal on .308.
