I am interested in building a F-class rifle. Thinking about a custom action.
Barnard was mentioned but I can't find anyone that has one.
3000$ is all I really want to spend on the gun alone.
Also barrels and stocks anything I should avoid.

PM sent. Ian Robertson from "Robertson Composites" is the Canadian distributror for Barnard. He also sells custom gunstocks, so he is a good fellow to speak with all round.

My son got a Barnard with one of Ian's stocks. He has won many of the matches this year and almost every Aggregate he shot. He credits the new rifle for the improvement.

It has a McClennan "Heavy Palma" barrel. Not sure who cut the chamber. I am sure it cost less than $3000. I am guessing around $2500.

For FClass a different stock would be called for.

I think the Barnard is a very good, high quality action. I hate the metric scope mount screw holes but apart from that, I like the action. It would be among my first choices amongst custom actions. Regards, Bill.

Just order it with Ian's scope rail already attached and then you don't have to worry about the screw holes :D

Bought my Barnard from Ian and the Stock. Got the H and H stock.

Nope, was an extra, everything is extra. After getting it and paying for it I thought it was rather expensive. After trying it and finding out what a great job Ian did for me i'm considering another one for my 6 BR. Same pattern but with Red.
Ian has the proper rails for the scope to fit the Barnard. He machined em for me to fit.
Real easy guy to deal with and he sure knows his business.
He also built a stock for my buddy's .338 LM at the same time and added close to if not exactly 10 lbs of lead shot. Gun was 21.5 lbs before the scope was mounted.

The rifle in the pic shoots 1 hole groups all day (little ones). I recently set a personal best of 7 Thumb tacks in a row from 100 with it, working on getting 10 straight.
This is where 1/8th really helps with the precision, clarity is unbelievable, anyone that can cover the cost of this scope should own one.

Mike.

So, are you planning on shooting the open or 223/308 class?

Nope. Sorry about that. I was quoting the "wife" price....

Yes Barnards are all metric, except for the bedding screws which are 1/4-28 and the barrel thread which is 1 1/16 - 16. Interesting to note that the Tikka T3, which I expected to be metric has an inch barrel thread. We are the Canadian Barnard importer.

I went to install bases and found the holes were threaded metric. Called Ian to complain and suggest they import with SAE base holes. He suggested I just go to Canadian Tire and buy 4 metric screws.

That seems too easy......

ganderite that is funny

I made a 40 pound base for a SEB front rest, kept the leg screws which are metic, gunsmith drilled and tapped the holes, but the fellow who did the powder coating wanted to retap the holes just to be nice and called me drunk to complain for a half hour.

told him to drop it off at the local machinst and they would retap for $20 for 3 holes and go to canadian tire and see what metric screws looked like, I did not want to have a gunsmith rebuild 3 legs which hold the top on to the base,

nice story, someday a barnard action for me if I live long enough
