German 308 surplus

OK, who has it??? Sounds like good stuff.

Stolen from another website:

History

"GECO is the abbreviation of Gustav Genschow & Co.
Since April 2002, the Swiss ammunition manufacturer RUAG Munition and Dynamit Nobel AmmoTec in Germany have merged their ammunition businesses and now form the RUAG Ammotec company – the new key player in ammunition technology and from January 2005 Gustav Genschow "Nobel" is renamed RUAG Ammotec Austria."

"where is this deal?"

Check out the most recent issue of "Canadian Access to firearms". Hopefully someone will give a review soon. If it's anything like the other "germanic" ammo I've shot, it'll be very good stuff.

Wow...Thanks for your help. Welcome to my ingnore list :slap:

Do so at your peril...you will miss out on leads to future deals!

I would very much like to post contact info for the above, however (1. When I'm done with my copy (of the above said magazine) I leave it at my range clubhouse for others to enjoy/look at. Hence, I do not HAVE this info to post. Instead, all I can do right now is refer you all to where I saw this ad in the first place. If something as small as this rattles you, maybe you shouldn't own firearms!
I invite anyone who has an Oct 2008 issue to post the info here for the benefit of the above people.
As a "newbie" to computers (Not to shooting, however) are we allowed to post advertising/contact info for non-CGN dealers/sponsors?

why do people call the SA stuff garbage i get dcent groups with it it nothing specail though def... would't call it garbage

You're right ! Nuthin' wrong with the SA stuff, esp. if u break it down into components or if u "mexican match" the stuff! BUT....I found it to be a bit over-rated. Cheaper surplus stuff shot as well or better (in most cases) in my experience both as is ( in my battle rifles), or when I mexican matched the stuff in my precision rifles. The advantage over most surplus was it was boxer primed.
Zupermann, your instinct is right, Can. Gun Nutz rulez say u can't post a business name/# etc., that doesn't sponsor Can. Gun nutz. So even if you had the direct info to give this guy (1barfly) the administrator may screen/shut u down. Is enforcement that strict? who knows, but why risk sanctions. I hope u stay on that guy's ignore list...it means more ammo for the rest of us HA HA HA . Serious shooters should get a subscription to canadian access as it's the best non-online classified in Kanada.
I know of the ammo you speak of as I have the ad in front of me. I ordered 2 k rounds and will let u all know when I try it out, which by the time my cheque clears/delivery---would be about a month i figure. to da lo!

Oh, I neglected to add that there is at least one manufacturer who doesn't recommend using PMP or South African surplus brass/ammo in their (308) rifles. Has to do with brass softness issues according to them... "sticky extractions". They also don't like steel cased ammo.

S/a 308

2 Inches at a hundred is not great but not garbage either. Its always 2 inches, but so is a lot of other milsurp like D/A , IVI etc. Some like Portuguese FNM can be a little tighter, it all depends on the price you can get it for.

The SA stuff shoots consistently amazing out of my M14s. The only other ammo I shot with that gun was commercial 150gr. soft point and it shoot just as well.

Maybe it's the rifle, not the ammo?

yea your right on 2" inchs at 100 yards a little tighter with my bolt guns but thats to be expected

Yeah, bear in mind that this stuff is originally made as COMBAT ammo, hundreds of thousands/millions of rounds made in a production run. That being said, most of this surplus stuff shoots O.K. But you just can't expect any of this stuff to give high performance....if it does, kiss the ground you're standing on and thank the Gun Gods that you have a crate of ammo that performs in your rig. Of course depends on the rifle/shooter combination (see sidebar below), but I too have had great results with Austrian/German surplus (esp when manipulating their components). The Hirtenburger stuff (with a match bullet placed on the end, original powder charge) shot like a house on fire in my M-24. I'm almost out, so I too am gonna try some of this German surplus.
Side bar: I had norinco .223 that shot very well out of my bushmaster AR-15, but didn't out of my Colt (apparently Bushmasters have/had tighter chambers) but probably other factors involved.

tuned ?

Well, the SA surplus does shoot like trash in my M14. I get 2-3" groups at 50 m in it. It's not the rifle either, because I can get sub MOA with certain factory loads.

A milspec m14 shoots 4 and 1/2 inches to 5 and 1/2 inches to be accepted by the army. A tuned norc will shoot 2 inches with the same nato ammo at a hundred. Did you tune yours ? Harmonics is EVERYTHING -----
{I used to get trash groups with S/A in some of my norcs - others in different tune states love it }
