Need to buy a H&K pistol

I have lots of different calibers& mm's of different manufactor's, but have always wanted a H&K.
I've looked at the P7 very closely, but now I wonder if I shouldn't find some thing more versitiall? I'm 75 so it's just to satisfy some need to have" done it"
Any suggestions for a model that would be better than a P7.

P2000, (this coming from a guy who has 3 P7M8's)

half the price of a P7M8, is only slightly less accurate...(more a function of getting used to the trigger vs. the P7's oh so sweet SA trigger), easier to clean, take apart, replace parts if they break.

It's also the same length as the P7 if you don't count the idiotic canadian protruding barrel.
 
Well thanks alot on the advice, Just checked the priceing an I could get two USP's for the price of one P7.
That makes sence to me.

The only HK I own is the P7 PSP. It was a heck of a lot cheaper than the regular version. It's a fun and very accurate firearm. I'm glad I bought one.
 
I love the USP. But is it not true that H&K as a company tends to only want to deal with LEO and military and whatnot, and isn't really too helpful to individuals buying their products?
 
Get the P30-L if you can.....I am STILL waiting on mine. I have owned 3 USP's. They are very reliable and accurate.

I currently have a P2000 in 9mm and a P7 PSP 9mm. Both are fantastic pistols and I would recommend both.

I have posted quite a bit about the P2000 since I got mine. Look at my post (#5) on this thread:

...and it links to my threads on the P2000. Since I got the extended baseplates for my P2000 I have like it more and more, to the point that it is now rivaling my SIGs for favorite shooter.

I actually traded my USP 9mm for my P2000 (I had to come up with another $300 bucks or something like that) and that has been one of the best trades I have made in my firearms acquisitions. The P2000 is at least twice the shooter the USP is, at least for me. I could never really get used to that big-boxy USP grip and the high bore axis - as much as I liked the looks of that gun and really WANTED to love it. The slide is much smaller, lower and lighter on the P2000, and the grip gives you (or me at least) far better control over the gun (with the extended baseplates).

The P7 is nice. They are expensive though. The PSP's are really the only ones that are reasonably priced, but they rarely come up in the EE, and when they do they are snapped up right away at prices higher than what people paid for them. I bought mine from ArmsEast when they had them for $850 (or something like that... it might have been $850 including the second mag). I could easily sell it for $1,000 or more.

P7's are good, but they aren't magical super-guns or anything. I've shot various of them over the years and they are fun, but I don't think they are any more accurate than other accurate autopistols (SIGs, 1911s, etc.).

On the issue of the P30 and P30-L, I communicate with a guy in Norway who has a P30-L. He has had his for quite some time now. This is actually him on Youtube:

The P30 was designed for German police. The P30-L was a variant for Norweigan police (or miliatry, I can't remeber). Civillians can buy them there as well, and have been able to for some time. The P30-L is on the HK USA website now.. but it still seems like a total phantom in terms of the North American market. People have been talking about that gun on this board and similar ones in the US for eons. If and when they show I will probably buy one, but until that time I would focus on what you can actually get rather than descending into the waiting hell that Maurice is currently in. We all know first hand that waiting for firearms (parts, mags, ammo, gear) SUCKS!!! and sucks big time. I would also be intersted (more interested actually) in just a regular P30 if HK will make some barrels for the Canadian market. I think it would be a better handling gun (although it is extremely close is overall size, etc. to the P2000).

There is a PSP for 975, which I'll get an then a 2000 one a bit later.

what is sad is that the P30-L's that did make it into Canada are sold,...gone,..and I have not heard of anyone claiming to own one on CGN,...figured someone on here must have snagged one.

I really hope you get yours, because you obviously want it really bad, and I would like to hear your thoughts on them when you get yours - as you have proven yourself very knowledgeable on similar guns in the past. So hopefully something works out with that soon. I just repeat my comments in my above post... what a total PHANTOM those guns have been for N. America!! The frustration you must be experiencing.... I know I was getting frustrated waiting 6 months or so for extended baseplates for my P2000... How long have you been waiting for that gun Moe? 2 years or more by now? I know you've had one on order for 6 months or something. What do you shoot now, in the meantime... 1911's in 9mm and .40?

Hey, no problem. I have a lot of pics up on this site. I can post some more later. They will be re-posts from other threads, but at least you won't have to search for them. The main post on the ArmsEast P7's is by a CGN'er named "Agitprop". A lot of my photos are in that thread. (I'll find the link later).

I have been waiting actually since June/July. That is when I told my dealer to order it for me. He and I were told early Sept. I would not be suprised if I don't get it until Christmas. I shot the USP...USP Custom sport and USP stainless with the match trigger,..all in 9mm in IPSC. I shot those from 2004 thru September, 2007,,...then around then I started using my Tanfoglio Stock 2 in 9mm for IPSC. I like the tanfoglio so much,..I sold off my HK's and my STI edge to get the Tanfoglio LC in .40 for standard division. Once the P30-L is more widely available,...you may see more in competition. My biggest complaint about the USP series is the bulky grip and high bore axis. The DA trigger was ok,..and the SA was great. The P30-L seems to have an exceptional grip,..and lower,.slimmer slide.
