Went for a drive today

Im sorry, but this type of thing really gets to me. I am all for hunting, but driving out into the country to kill some animals and let them go to waste is disgraceful. If you have no use for the meat or any other part of it or if these varmints arent causing a problem, then leave the damn things alone. If you need target practice, shoot some groups on paper. Its conduct like this that have the anti hunting bunch saying all us hunters do this and thats what hunting is all about.
Where I live, its a real treat to see a muskrat swimming up a creek and an especially rare sight to see a Magpie, if ever at all. To kill them for no particlar reason is uncalled for.
Same goes for gophers out west. When I hear stories on here of people killing 600 of them in a few days, it really pisses me off. That is not simply taking care of a few problem ones, it is an outright slaughter of them, just for "Target Practice". In a few years from now, these people will be wondering were they all went when they have to resort to paper targets for target shooting.

I know Im going to take flack for my point of view, so go ahead.

I assume you have never stepped on an ant, squashed a mosquitoe, or killed a wasp? What about set a mouse trap?
Listen, You are entitled to your opinion and everything, but just to let you know, your opinion is wrong.

I would suggest that if you don't know what you are talking about that you keep your uninformed opinions to yourself. It makes you look stupid.;)

You dont have to be a genius like you to realize that heading out into the woods to kill some animals just for ####s and giggles is comepletely uncalled for. I agree I may be unaware of the gopher situation out west, but to say that it is alright to kill animals like Musrats and Magpies just beacause they are labelled as varmits, even if they arent causing a problem for you, is completely unecessary. Its people like you that make us hunters look like inbred redneck #######s to the rest of the public.
And guess what? I will continue to voice my opinion on here as much as I feel like it. Just because some big shot like you with a high post count makes a thread doesnt make it immune to peoples opinions.

You use examples like mouse trap and wasp, but that proves my point exactly. A wasp can sting you and a mouse can chew through stuff and #### everywhere and make a mess in your house. A couple of muskrats in a creek out in the woods arent exactly posing a threat or problem to you. I agree with taking care of pests if they are causing a problem for you, but heading out into the woods to waste some poor animals just for amusement is ####ed up.

Whats the point in hunting then, no need to go out and shoot a deer, you can ust go to the grocery store and buy a steak instead.
You don't know if KDX was asked to go out and deal with the muskrats, and hell even if he wasnt, who cares? Muskrats are just rats that swim.

wow, never thought id see someone on cgn saying "dont shoot gophers"
next he is going to get upset about coyote hunting

i remember a thread on here where someones brother had a job given to him by parks canada to shoot crows in the woods.

Because when you hunt, you take then animal and make use of its meat. You shoot the animal for a reason, not just for ####s and giggles and leave it outhere to waste.
Well, KDX did not say he was called out there to take care of the muskrats, but even if he was, why did the pigeons and Magpie have to be shot? Just for fun it seems, since I dont think a few pigeons and a Magpie are causing a porblem out in the country. Muskrats may just be rats that swim, but they dont deserve to be shot, killed and left to rot for no reason, simply because you dont agree with thier existence.

Again, its conduct like this that makes the antis and even the non-hunting communtity hate us hunters.

I dont consider it hunting when the animal is not used and left to rot. When that is the case, it is merely killing.

Only been back for about a year here in the east, but it use to be groundhogs, racoons, pigeons, crows, and coyotes/ coydogs (Now I hear its black bears) that were considered pest here & I don't remember alot of people #####ing that a few were done in by some "redneck" target practicing. Thinning out the herd, to me is no big deal as long as it is legal. Obviously were not talking about a rare or extinct species; as some guy in Toronto, who has never been north of HWY 7 would have you drawn & quartered if you so much as yelled at them. The only people who usually perceive this as evil are those who have not seen the firsthand damage to crop, pasture and buildings. You are whole heartly welcome to express your opinion here. Guys like you keep this place lively...:p

Sorry to get in the middle of this discussion but I really don't want to start a thread on this and I all ready posted my question in this thread but I'll ask again...seems like it lost along the way.
What the heck is pigeon pie?
thanks
Eric
Never mind I just googled it. I think I'll pass:puke:

Whammy,
thanks for the reply. I was busy editing my post. If you're interested here's a recipe I found
Ingredients
4-5 pigeons, drawn
salt and pepper
250g/8oz stewing beef
250g/8oz shortcrust pastry
beaten egg to glaze
2 tsp cornflour
300ml/10fl oz stock

Eric

they cause hell for farmers, good enough reason right there to shoot them

Sure, but that is pest control, not hunting. That is acceptable since there is a problem, but going looking for so called varmits out in the country just to kill them is uncalled for. Muskrats or any other animals arent causing you grief or problems when you have to drive into the country and look for them. If they are causing you a problem on your property or friends property or whatever, take care of it, but dont go looking for them out in the woods just to kill them.

It's people like you that make my day. I needed a good laugh and your kind just happens to pop up at the right time. I think I'm going to start carrying a camera for when I go out KILLING next time. I'm sure this might put you into coronary mode, but I'm going to go out calling coyotes and foxes soon and kill every one of them I can. And guess what...it's fun. I hear there are some wolves around here now and I will be doing my best to exterminate them too as they serve no useful purpose.:D

All I want to know about the muskrats is.....did any of them do the death circle while spurting blood out??:D

I was using modded AE22 (the pen trick) and it was just a whop and that was it. Probably good shot placement (a fluke) more than anything.

Go ahead. But I hope you realize that its people like YOU that are making hunting look bad in the eyes of the public. Ignorant people of the general public can't tell the difference between sportsmanlike hunting and pointless killing, so they figure we are all #######s like you.

At one point, I thought all hunters were ethical sportsman who hunted and made use of the game, but now I know there are people like you who kill for sheer fun and have no intention of making use of any of the animals they kill.
