Hey guys, just wanted to put together a thread for my savage 10FP that I just finished yesterday. Comment/suggestions are appreciated for anything I can change/fix :)

ack about 2 months ago I purchased a Savage 10FP .308 with the tupperware stock.

Decided after about a month of use to upgrade everything i had on it.

Before setup:
-savage 10FP .308
-Leopold ring/base
-Rock mount bipod
-Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15x40 tactical scope

Here is a picture of a friend shooting it.

Then I placed a bunch of orders for the following:

-Bell and Carlson Tactical stock (from Jim @ rifle-accuracy!)
-EGW 20MOA Base
-Burris XTR medium rings
-Falcon Optics Menace 4.5-18x56IR (thanks Frontier!)
-Karsten Cheek piece

Here was the day I got the stock and mounted it:

Then I wanted to install the Karsten Cheek piece and paint the stock olive drab.

Here were the results:

And here is everything together:

I think with the grass the color goes nicely

Now...TO THE RANGE!

::Special thanks goes to Steve David for guiding and helping me and the rest of the CGN members that guided my n00bness through this!

A very nice rig indeed. Well done.

Did you bed the action?

Start loading up some ammo and enjoy.

Jerry

Haven't bed the action, didn't want to do that just yet as I'm sure I'd screw something up haha. Someday I will though!

168 AMax and Varget...it'll shoot...trust me.

168grain AMax or Varget? I'm guessing those are rounds? any ideas where I can normally find them and for how much?

When I got the rifle I was buying Federal 150grain rounds but the stores locally don't get them often so I started buying the Winchester 180grain round from walmart

I'm still lost on what bullets I should use that I can buy locally, are cheap and shoot good.

168 grain Hornady Amax bullet and Hodgdon Varget for powder if you are reloading. I take it you don't reload yet? (notice how I said YET :D)

haha, not reloading at this moment. I'll be in the CF Reg Force come march/april so I won't have much time over the next year and a bit to dedicate much time on reloading. But I am keeping the empty brass for when I do :)

Right now I'm going to be buying rounds from the stores until I get better haha :)

mr.rhtuner,

Very nice.

I have basicly the same set up except mine is a 12VLP in .223. I am quite happy with the B&C stock.

Where did you buy the Karsten cheek piece? And how did you mount it to the stock? I like the looks of it.

Cheers!

Your rifle looks great man, the B&C stock looks so nice with the silver barrel!

I bought my Karsten cheek piece from Karsten himself...spectacular guy to deal with. He overcharged me 4.00 on shipping he says and refunded it me back, while he could have just kept the $4.00

I'll be getting another cheek piece from him anyday!

To mount the piece to the stock you have to drill into the stock at a position you feel is right for you.

here are a few pics of the cheek piece up close and without it on the stock.

Just shows you how fitment is on it.
It was worth money spent on it IMO

Hope that helps :)

When I bought my 10FP McMillan .308, I also bought about 6 boxes of Hornady 168gr Amax Match. The rifle loves it. And at $27 a box it was a fair bit cheaper than Federal Gold Metal match.

I've got almost the same set-up but 10FP with already olive green spiderweb B&C with Falcon in Seekins rings/base

Try Hornady Match ammo in 168gr, shoots really good, I mean really good
I didn't post my groups from few weeks ago at Silverdale but I got 3 Hornady's into the same hole  at 100 yards (one thing I've noticed that those pills started to shoot better the more they remained on the SUN )
the pressure did increase judging by a little heavier bolt lift, but no pressure signs on the brass :D

Well I just called the local Globals gun shop and CK Gun room and they don't stock Hornady ammunition.

See, when I went looking around for match ammo, they normally gave me prices at 40-50 a box and IMO that's fairly expensive. Mind asking how much the Hornady match 168gr is?

TFunfer - I've ordered 2 blackhawk cheek pads before and both felt good but the adjustability was something I wanted to have.

MagnumPeanut - I will post a range report soon :sniper:

I bought it at LeMorons for about $32/box (I even have the lot # at home for those magic pills)

And let me say that my 200 yards targets with Hornady match group less than 1" for 3-shot with no probs, and if I take my time 5-shot as well (look back at my posts I had few with pics)

The Hornady 168gr Amax Match was $27 a box at Wholesale Sports in Calgary.

If you have the 1/10 twist rate 178grain is recommended

The 168s went sub 1/2 MOA with the first load I tried so I didn't bother trying another bullet. I may try them some say, but it's hard to argue with the results. I shot one group at 500 (the only group I've shot at that range so not statistically relevant) and it went into 2.5" to 3" (was on a gong and I didn't measure the group that closely).

I've gone through probably 10 boxes of Hornady match 168gr boatail with my Savage 12fv .308 and consistently sub MOA (barely but it is) at 100yds anyway. Considering how little I've had a chance to shoot with it, it's not too too bad IMO.

Nice rig btw!

Both the amax's shoot well but if you can shoot the 178's, its well worth it. You may not notice out to 500, but beyond that, that extra weight will help.
