264 Win from 7mm Rem brass?

I know this sounds like a stupid question but if you reform 7mm rem. brass down to 264 Win. is there anything you have to do to the neck?
I already reform 7mm for my 257 WBY and have no problems. 264 brass is hard to find. I am ordering a Rem 700 CDL SF special run in 264 Win. Mag. for deer and elk.
 
.264 Win Mag brass from 7mm Rem Mag brass....

Both brass ctg lengths are 2.500" [trim length for both is 2.490"]. Also, both have 25 degree shoulders. So you should be able to just run 7mm Rem Mag brass thru a .264 Win Mag sizing die, check for length and you should be good to go.

I am set up to load for .264 Win Mag but not for 7mm Rem Mag [don't have a rifle in that ctg]. I have all .264 Win Mag brass to start with, though. Not really that hard to find. You can either pick up factory ammo to start with for the brass or order it from WS for $38 per 50 for Winchester factory brass.

It's a moot point whether 264 is available or not. You are correct, Charlie. Lube the virgin 7mag brass well, run it through the 264 die, and you are good to go.

UNLESS, the brass is thick enough in your particular chamber to require neck turning. I have never run into this problem when necking down 7mag brass for at least 5 different 264's.

Of course it is convenient to be able have the headstamp on the brass indicate the correct cartridge.
 
As others have said it should be available. But yes you can neck down 7mm brass unless your chamber neck is too tight. I would get new brass for your new rifle. It's not a rare caliber to have to resort to reforming brass. Start fresh. IMO

i used to use 7mm brass for my .264 but i got worried when one of my buddies showed up with a 7mm. i was concerned about getting them mixed up so now i just order the .264 brass.

This is a non-issue for your loads in his, all he'd see was poor accuracy and possibly split case necks. The 6.5 mm bullet would just rattle down the 7 mm bore, while the case neck would expand to seal, possibly splitting. No danger involved.

Yours would require a noticeably worn throat or long, generous throating to fit a 7 mm bullet in your 6.5 mm bore. This could lead to blown cases and gas escape, unlikely to blow the gun up though unless pressures were already too high.

But this begs the question of why you both aren't keeping track of your own ammo well enough to not have an issue?
 
we come in at dark tired from walking all day put the guns in the corner and ammo belts on the table, say a round falls out and i pick his 7mm up?? ill have to see if a 7mm will chamber in my .264 i dont know as it has never happened, YET

Try it and see, if it will chamber without excessive resistance, then keep using proper headstamped cases i. I'd rather have the headstamp match if possible anyhow, but it matters not to function, only to safety as you already know.
