LOAD DATA 7.62x54r

Lots in the Hornady amnual as well.Try reloadersnest.com its free! What bullet wieght do you want to use? I recall IMR 4350 was good.........Harold * you may have to play with various bullet diameters as well depending on your bore size .308,.311 + .312"

I use .311 174 grain Sierra Match King HPBT over IMR430 with very good results in a 1953 Polish M44 carbine. I tried a load with 150 grain .308 FMJ bullets and had a 5" group at 102 yards, they just did not seem to stabilize in my barrel. The .311 SMK bullets give a nice 1-2" group for 5 shots with iron sights at 102 yards.

Barnes has the new 150 TSX in .310 or .311 diameter (don't recall). Would make a nice round for the 303 british or 7.62 x 54.

Not sure what wieght to use. I bought Hornady 303 cal .312 150gr sp interlock for 303 brit that I will be loading. I would like to load only soft points because I hope to find the time to go hunting some day. Nice too know that I might be able to use the same bullets for my M91/30 and M38 . Like I said I am just starting out I've got all my equipment and I am trying to get a lot of info. Hope to load my first rounds this weekend:) It says in the speers book that you can expect to get only about 3 reloads from 303British brass, Does the 7.62x54r brass last longer? I sure hope so because it is harder to find and it is more exspensive.

If you only neck-resize your brass, you should be able to get a few more reloads (as far as I know). And, how "hot" your charge is, how tight the headspace is, will affect the brass life. (again, as far as I know. I specify this because, I am still a super newbie).

As far as reloading data goes, I found plenty of data in the Lee book, and on Hodgdon's website to allow me to reload for my Mosins.

I bet the 303 Brit data would be similar and safe. Every book has 303 Brit.

Are you talking about using 303 British data to reload the 7.62 x 54r? They are not even close in the manual.... The 7.62 x 54 is very similar in performance to 308 win, however, you should never exchange info from one round to another..... you should use the proper data for the appropriate caliber.

My suggstion would be similar to saying you could use 308 data to load a 30-06.

The Ruskie and Brit shoot the same bullets out of cases that are sort of the same capacity.

Sort of close, is not good reloading advise..... Who loads 30-06's with 308 data? Different cases, produce totally different pressures....

There is enough proper reloading data out there to keep you safe, why a person would want to try and swap data, I don't know?

I looked at the Hornady manual and there is 10 grains difference in the loads using the same powder with a 150gr bullet, with the 7.62 being the more potent round. So they are not close....

Bob 7.62, If you want 7.62x54 data, send me an email and I can scan the pages....
