I am using this board because you boys know your ballistics. Is the 7mm wsm a flat shooter? I ordered a saku 85 in 7mm wsm. I want to use it with the Zeiss rapid z 600 reticle out to 350-400.
SAKO 85 STAINLESS/SYNTHETIC · "SM" Action
Caliber - 7mm WSM
Mfr. # JRS1B42 · 229958

where did you find that one?

on thier website Sako lists the 85 SM in 270WSM and 300WSM only.....

as for flat shooting...I guess it's in between a 280 and a 7 Rem Mag for velocity...so a good 140 with a high BC at 3100-3200 ish should shoot pretty flat...but flat is relative.....

Thats a beauty but Im concerned it wont be around and will be discontinued as a bullet.m

I doubt it will ever be discontinued. Short mags are getting more popular and the 7mmwsm out preforms the 7mm long.

For a flat shooter in the 7mm lots of people like the 7 STW as well.

I do not own a 7mm wsm but I own many 7mm cartridges.

The 7mm bullet offers great BC and has become one of my favorite calibers. I has proven its self every where and which way possible. I could not see why the wsm would be any different. I do not think the wsm line was meant to replace the long versions, just offer the gun enthusiest a different cartridge to play with.

One thing I have noticed with the WSM line it that for the hand loader they do not seem to be as picky on powder selection and are quite easy to get to shoot with multiple powders. Also they seem to be a bit more efficient than the std magnums. Is that enough to go sell all my std magnums ,NO but a great concept by winchester

And to answer your question yes it is a great combo! great for distance and enough to Hunt what ever you wish in North America, Solid combo

I would not worry about it not being around... you will always be able to get brass and bullets, you can neck down a 300 wsm, but you wil not have too! I myself am concidering this cartridge

...The 300 and 270 WSM's have a slightly longer neck that the 7 WSM, so it involves a bit of trimming, but component availability is the least of your worries.

maybe they do not make them now but they did in 2006

Quote:
Calibers available in 2006 include .22-250, .243 Win, .25-06, .260 Rem, 6.5x55, .270 Win, .270 WSM, 7mm-08, 7mm WSM, .308 Win, .30-06, .300 WSM, and .338 Federal. Sako helped Federal introduce the .338 Federal cartridge, which first appeared in the new Model 85 rifles.

I enquired about a T-3 in a 7 wsm and Tikka does not offer it now I assume sako does not either.

Sako doesnt make a 7WSM......

They were made in '06 & '07, but not listed for 2008...

Its listed at WSS, if they have one, its old stock...

Of all the production WSM's the 7mm is the only one I've really given serious consideration to. Was going to go for a Browning A-bolt stainless stalker in it but other stuff keeps getting in the way....
