i'm just getting into duck/ goose hunting and I am looking at a shot gun. Are there any recomendations out there? Anything that I shoudl be looking for when I buy my first gun?
Good advice. Make sure it is 12 ga, the only practical gauge for a beginner. Those Remington pump guns seem to last forever. Most older guns are full choke, which is too tight for large steel pellets. It will cost $60 or so to have a gunsmith open full choke to modified, and then you're all set for steel shot. Don't let anyone tell you that you NEED 3" or 3-1/2" shells, it just isn't so. Learn to judge distance. You can cleanly take ducks and geese to 40 yds with good quality 2-3/4" shells like Faststeel, you are unlikely to make accurate shots any farther anyway. I shoot a LOT of waterfowl each year, and used up my last 3" shells this season. I likely won't be buying any more.
