Took my newly built Krieger Barreled 6BR out to the range today to break the barrel in. No load work up, just threw together 30.5g Varget, 105 Bergers jammed .015 into the lands lit by CCI BR4 primers for the break in.

With results like this.......

4 shots @ 100m

5 Shots @ 200m if the lone shot would have fallen into the group of 4 below it....it would have been under .5"

.....if I make a bad shot, I can't blame the damn Barrel....THAT SUCKS!!! :D

This is the second Krieger that has performed like this now, I am thinking of changing barrel makers so I at least have some kind of excuse for crappy shots.

I forgot to include my course of fire for the day:
1 shot and clean X 5 = 5 rounds
3 shots and clean X 2 = 6 rounds
Shot the 100m 4 shot group = 4 rounds
Then immediately shot the 5 shot 200m group. = 5 rounds
Total of 20 rounds down the barrel which was all I had loaded up.

Yes Richard, I think it is time you either changed barrels, or the provinces in which you shoot, since I have to shoot against you!!!!

BTW, what velocity were you getting with you load?

Yeah really, why don't you buy something that shoots!:D

Seriously, that is an awesome shooter, post a pic. of your gun if you don't mind..

Very nice!Did the barrel display much copper fouling? My only complaint with my Kreiger barrel was that it fouled more than my other barrels for the first couple of range sessions.

Did you follow Kriegers Break-In instructions?

I have for the last 2 barrels and after the 2 "Shoot 3 and clean" sessions, fouling is next to none.

Lots of blue on the first 5 "Shoot one and clean" regimen but gets better the further into the Break-In routine you go.

Last barrel was a 30ish shot Break-In (5 X 1 & Clean, 3 X 3 & Clean, 3 X 5 & Clean) I opted for 20 rounds this time.

I cleaned after every shot to start with, then after every three shots, and after a couple of range sessions, the fouling faded. However my Gaillard barrel spoiled me in that it hardly fouled at all even for the first few shots.

Nice looking groups, congrats!

The wine coloured stock - who makes it? Any other configs available?

The colour is absolutely gorgeous - my fiance would flip if I gave her something like that. Shape doesn't do much for me, but the colour and lamination are outstanding.

All the best, Carl

It is a factory Pepper Laminate Thumbhole Remington XR-100 Stock. I stripped the factory applied finish. Whatever they put on them is absolutely ROCK FRICKIN HARD and damn near impossible to remove!!. I then stained the stock at home and clearcoated it at my shop.

Try Boyds and Richards Microfit, they both make laminted stocks. I would definitley like to see this stain on a Natural Laminated wood as well. If it turned out this nice on the Grey Laminate, it should look just as good (or better) on the Natural colored woods.

I also used this same stain when I made a new top for my loading bench. Stained and Clearcoated 3/4" MDF.....looks awesome.

I have not owned a Gaillard barrel but I know my Smith Barrel (The one now on the brown stock) fouls up nicely. I noticed that this Krieger did exhibit more copper durnig break in than the last one, but it settled down around the 5th single shot/clean and got even better with the 3 and clean.

I don't see what there is to complain about if the fouling faded after the proper break in. Both makers produce a good product, and the Gaillard was the second most accurate barrel I've owned, but my preference is for cut rifling for the reasons suggested by Boots Obermyer and Jack Krieger.

Nice shooting and a fine pair or rifles CyaN1de. You sucked me in on this thread though, I was ready to do battle in support of my favorite barrel maker.

Sucked YOU in!?!?!? Man, you don't know the HALF of it :D

I guess you can't please everyone, but that is the first complaint I've ever heard about them fouling. All mine have been exceptional for accuracy and non-fouling and I don't beleive in break-in.
