Thanks to Ontario's tag system, that's all I could shoot. The guys (8) saw seven adult moose, and one calf.
The one calf was protected by it's mother, and no shot offered.
Me, I saw a cow, and later a bull.
If we'd had a tag, it would have been filled before noon, opening day.
 
What WMU John?

I was talking to a gang in WMU 47 where only thirty tags were up for grabs,and they got four adult tags out of the 30 available.They already had two cows,a bull,and a calf down,and trying to fill the last tag.
The tag system is really frigged up I agree.
 
I've been hearing this a lot this year, guys seeing moose, but no tags available...

They say they're doing a review this year, hopefully it will be better than the current system...

To bad you dont have any tags but dont feel to bad. I just talked to a group that had a bull and a cow tag. 10 days in the bush they had 12 wolf sightings and thats it. Ouch!
 
Same for us. We were in WMU 40, with one Bull tag.

We had 2 cows in range during the week, and saw a bull on the road before shooting light. Last year, we had only calf tags and saw 4 good bulls and a few cows.

Thats the way it goes sometimes I guess...

Rumor mill has it that the MNR found an abandoned cow shot and recovered a shell casing near the kill site. If its true, I hope they catch the b@stards!

I did manage to get within 6 feet of a nice lynx though... here kitty kitty..
 
Dido where we were as well. Lots of bulls, a few cows & no tags or good shots at calfs. They got one calf the Saturday before I got there though.
May try to get back & least fetch a nice Whitetail though.
M.N.R. : Ministry of No Results. Awh maybe they'll go on strike again next fall & tell everyone to take one on them...:p
 
Wanny17 and I were in WMU 57 - no tags for about 6 years now, can't even shoot calves.

One evening three of us sat in a boat after doing a little duck hunting and watched two bulls fighting over a cow. One was a spike bull, the other had a nice rack. We managed to shoot all of them from about 50 yards with our digital camera. What an amazing show.

Maybe we'll get drawn next year. Until then it's just a story, and you can't eat stories.

i get fed bull s--t all the time :D
 
we had a cow tag for WMU 49 and we seen 5 bulls .One nice one with probably a 40" rack. NO calves or cows. Seen one nice 10 point buck though. We'll be back in a couple weeks for the deer hunt. I bet we see more cows and calves then deer.
 
You still did more hunting than I did this year! Looks like it was fun. Can't wait until next year! Here's to all of us getting a moose in 2009!
