yeah its old but it also shows that blowing over 20 grand on a factory Über gun does not guarantee good manufacturing or engineering.
 
I think what he want to say is that use rings that WORK. Price is not always a good indicator of performance.

Many shooters have been very successful with product considered dirt cheap.

There is too much tactical bling out there.

When he said cheap, I think he was jus stressing the importance of not cheaping out on Rings/Bases..... Not necessarily that those particular rings were cheap.....:p

Sometimes even a pricey mount causes issues... I have a Blaser Quick-Detach mount whose QD levers can't stay put and it cost me something over 450$...
 
I would bet those did not fail.........but would love to see some sheap rings hold that scope or a Nightforce and see how much more it would flex
