Well here are some pictures of my Sako model 75 Grewolf 338-06 Ackley Improved with a new 24" #5 PacNor barrel, 8 flutes with the barrel, receiver, bolt, scope rings, trigger guard and entire magazine powdercoated in Gunmetal Grey to match the Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40 scope mounted in the new style Sako Optilok rings. :sniper: I'll take some better pics @ home with a white background as these ones I took @ work. Let me know what you think. 8)

Still debating on having it done the way I wanted-same barrel but have six flutes with 1/4" cut and just the flutes powdercoated with the receiver back to stainless look along with remaining part of barrel beadblasted to satin stainless finish. Or now I still might have to get the entire barrel powdercoated. I guess I'll see how this one shoots first. My gunsmith said they would take care of me whatever way I choose. They do great work!

Now to get some reloads made with Weatherby 338-06AS brass with 225gr Accubonds and maybe try 225gr TTSX's. Accubonds are my first choice though.

Looks good, how about a picture of a cartridge if you have some fireformed and reloaded. I have a 35 Whelen AI and would like to see it's smaller cousin.;)

Nice Rig, finally Sako went back to the one piece ring design, they look good.
Keep us updated with the load development and accuracy.

Corlanes / Rocky Mountain Rifles in Dawson Creek,B.C. did the project for me. I have had work done by them in the past, and they do EXCEPTIONAL WORK! Highly recommended in my books, as I have said on other postings.

Cant wait to get some loads thru it. First batch will be to break in the barrel and to fireform 40 new 338-06AS brass with medium to just under hot loads, using 225gr Accubonds at first and once broken in I may try 225gr TTSX's and then compare the two loads.

My first preference are the Accubonds as thats all I reload with for my 300WM and 270WSM. With the performance @ the range and on big game with these 2 calibers, I traded the TSX bullets I had for more Accubonds in both calibers and never tried the TSX's. I'll post results when I get a chance to develope and shoot my rifle.

Two questions.

1) Weight??

2) And, why wouldn't you do it the way you wanted in the first place?

Weighs in @ 4.36kg (just under 9 5/8lbs.) for complete package. Sako m75 Greywolf #V action (300WM/338WM) is 8 3/4 lbs for just the rifle

Misunderstanding /Mistake by gunsmith's personel. Rifle still looks good thou.

As whst blargon said- the rings are new from Sako - straight Optilock ring mounts- hard to find. Phil @ P & D Enterprises didnt even know about them till I inquired a couple weeks ago to see if they had any in stock.
