I'm thinking about a Glock. Does a Glock perform a little better in either caliber? I'm leaning towards .40 because I have two pistols in 9mm and only one in .40 so far. I'm not considering .45.

Also, lefty shooters, are the extended slide stops and magazine releases useful?

Owned & shot both the G17 and G22. Glock shooting also includes the 12(6) ultra shorties of both G26 & G27, as well as the G19 9mm and G23 .40 cal sub compacts.

Most of my Glock shooting has been with a full size G22 .40 cal, though.

I am also a leftie..... wouldn't bother with either the extended slide stop or mag release on any Glock.

I shoot .40 in all of my pistols (except my .22LR) and really like the caliber. I reload which is what I would suggest to anyone who shoots any volume. If you reload .40 is about $1 more per box of ammuntion but it's way more fun. I do occasionally enjoy shooting a 9mm but it seems like a pellet gun in comparison to a real caliber like .40 or .45 ACP. I suggest buying a .40 Glock. If you don't like it you shouldn't have any problem trading it for a 9mm Glock.

I feel I made a mistake getting a G22 (.40) as my first pistol. I wish I had of started out with a G19 or G17L in 9mm then get the G22 service model for training etc.

9mm is a more inherently accurate cartridge than the .40. You also are looking at more recoil and increased price with a .40.

i have a G22 and love it , i`m also a lefty and have the extended mag release which i find easier to use , i don`t need the extended slide release as slaming the mag home release`s the slide for me.

get both ( buy an extra barrel and a couple mags)

.40 (then get the 9mm conversion barrel)

10mm (then get the .40cal conversion barrel):D

I've done it all with Glocks...

Definitely get the Glock .40S&W and a 9mm conversion barrel (you will only need 9mm magazines for reliable function).

You can get the 10mm Glock and then get a .40S&W / .357SIG barrel (*No 9mm barrel unfortunately).

I currently own a Glock 27 with threaded G23 Lone Wolf barrel in black.
I also bought the 9mm G23 threaded conversion barrel in black + 2 mags for my Glock 27.
I've put over 250rnds of 9mm through it without a single failure (and I was trying to make it fail).

Summary:
Get the 40 (then 9mm barrel + mags) or get a 10mm Glock (and 40 barrel) ;)

~Cheers

After shooting both the past while I would definitely say 9mm. The 9mm has a much milder snap, making the muzzle flip way less and easier to control. Which translates into faster follow up shots.

I never get why people want to go to a large calibre that will cost more and recoil harder. I mean if the specific gun you want only comes in a certain calibre then of course you have no choice. If you already have the reloading equipment for a certain calibre, and would save a great deal of money by sticking with it, then absolutely (my dad has a reloading setup for .40S&W which is why I may soon pick up a G22 or M&P40 :D). Or if you PREFER the recoil characteristics of a certain calibre (the harsh snap of 40, vs the soft thud of the 45) that makes sense. But to pick a calibre for no other reason than 'it kicks harder, which equals more fun'? To each his own I guess lol I just don't get it :p

Buy what you can shoot 'better', or 'nearly as well'.

PS - The G17 is the model that has endured all the torture tests, etc, and the Glock was designed for the 9mm round... which makes it cool :D
