A buddy asked me about this round today and I honestly had never heard about it before. A quick search showed that it's a .257 Roberts necked down to .243. Anybody here shooting one? He is pretty sure that his 6mm AI is on it's last legs and is looking for a a new caliber. He wants a fast 6mm but not ridiculously overbore. Doens't care if it's no better than his 6mm AI he just wants to try something new. It's a coyote rifle so it never see's rapid fire and not many rounds a year so barrel life is not a big worry as long as he can get 900-1000 rounds of good accuracy out of it. Or if you have no experience with the .243 Rock Chucker what would you recoment for a 6mm coyote round. He would like to go wildcat cartridge but nothing too crazy.

Why build that Rockchucker when the Standard 6mm Remington is identical except for the shoulder angle? [ Both the 257 Roberts & the 6mm Remington are based on the 7x57 Mauser case] Better throat life than the 243 Winchester, about another 100-150 fps available with heavy bullets, and a better case to reload IMHO. His 6mm AI is a great round , but if he's looking for a change, he will have to go up or down in capacity. Regards, Eagleye.

"...his 6mm AI is on it's last legs..." He say why he thinks that? Any barrel will give far more than 900 - 1,000 rounds before it's worn, even a little.
Your buddy should look into getting dies before he jumps into a .243 Rock Chucker. For example, Midway, Stateside, wants $142.99US for an RCBS die set. And it's a 90 plus day special order.
He'd be looking at a custom barrel too.

Exactly. Perhaps a 6mm-06, if the issue is with the throat.
