Can you use the Canadian bolt in a Mk. 8? Thought the Mk 8 Police Carbine was closed bolt only like the Mk. 6 with a blocking bar? Would it be only the spring you would want?
 
The police carbine is a mk4, and is open bolt. The closed bolt guns like you would find in the USA were made primarily for the American market and were classed as prohibited back in the 90s.

The Cdn bolt will interchange freely with the British open sterling bolt. The Cdn bolt is a simple bolt like the sten had, yet was just as reliable as the sterling bolt in my opinion. Seems like a lot of the changes Canada made to the sterling were about not paying royalties as much as function, ease of manufacturing and reliability.

I have heard of modifications which would allow the closed bolt gun to operate as an open bolt gun, but since that would be illegal in the US, and the prohibited guns can't be shot here in Canada, there doesn't seem to be much point to it.

My bad, I forgot about the open bolt, Mk.4 single shot. Always confuse it with the Mk. 8 which I thought was the Police Carbine.

Sorry for the noob question, I am CDN living in the US. Are the mk8 and mk9 prohibited under the Mk6 banner or restricted in Canada?

IMHO - the Police Carbine is never worth the 4-5g some nuts are willing to pay for them, which has every owner thinking they are worth that much...it's a $1500 restricted firearm!

Fugly? Not to this guy. I've always thought they were a cool little gun. Doubt I'll ever get the chance to buy one though.
