.300 win mag barrel life

my first rifle was a ruger 300wm cm barrel.. aprox 1500 rounds thru and accuracy started to fall off. new i would shoot around the inch mark with handloads. many rounds later it was still shouting at 1 1/2 inches. still acceptable hunting acuacey. i always allowed it to cool between groups and looked after it. it takes a while to burn out a a barrel if your careful.
Id expect a 300 win mag to last at least 2000-3000 rounds for top accuracy, I bet a good barrel would still group 1.5" groups after 5000-8000 rounds
300 Ultra..probably 1500-2000 rounds for best, and 3000-4000 before it was toast.
of course how it is cared for is a bigger factor than actual round count. In the big picture, barrels are cheap!

nice im looking at a .300 win mag for the range for long range shooting and moose hunting hopefully next year i just kinna wanted something with some more power more than what i already own otherwwise i would have got it in .270 or so but id really love to have a magnum caliber rifle and .300 wm ammo is cheap comapred to many others!

not that i will be putting tons of rnds through it but i would like to put maybe 100 rnds or so through it at the range each summer

Barrel life is DIRECTLY related to how hot you allow the barrel to get. I have seen barrels shot out in a few hundred rounds, by guys getting the barrels hot enough from continous shooting to cook a whole pig over.
I have a 300 Win Mag that has just over 5000 rounds through the barrel and it is still 1 of the most accurate rifles I own. that being said, itis not a factory barrel, but a matchgrade stainless, and it has never been hot.
I must admit I am surprised at how long this 1 has lasted, it could crap out next time I am out, but to allow any rifle barrel to cool between shots will greatly extend its useful lifespan.

This is exactly the truth!! I had a 220 Swift barrel "crap out" at about the 4000 round mark. It was very well cared for, and never shot "hot" When I had it rebarrelled, I sectioned the first 8" of that barrel, and the rifling was gone for 3" or so, and it looked pretty rough for another 3" But even the last 4-500 rounds were still moa [barrel originally shot ½moa] Finally couldn't keep it under 1½-2moa, but it took a lot of shooting [and enjoyment] to get there.
