Well I just purchased this and was wondering what bullet you all would suggest to use . Keith or a round nose flat point cowboy action style bullet. My powder of choice will probably be 777 and I'll also try pistol pyrodex. Cal. of course is 44 Russian

Sweet! Very nice indeed! I know you didn't exactly get THAT for pocket change! I use a Keith bullet. It weights about 256 grains and I size it to .430". That sixgun is a beauty!

Thanks I was thinking the Keith after having good results in my New model #3 in 450 Boxer. But I knew a few of you guys had had lots of experiance with 44 Russian and this is my first Russian
 
X2 Keiths bullet.
Orignally i chose the Keith bullet for the fact it cuts full caliber holes and so is a killer Round.
But i never found anything else yet that shoots as accurate in a 44 Russian or 44 SP

That is a beautiful S&W congrats. I sold mine a few years ago but I looked up my load and it was 3.2grns of Bullseye and the Lyman 429244 Keith bullet. I only wish mine was half as nice as yours

any of the 245 or 255 gr +/- semiwadcutter designs (429421... the RCBS Keith/Thompson etc...) will work well...even exceptionally......

another which is very accurate is the 246 gr roundnose .44 russian and special design...

Lee makes/used to make it....and there is the odd lyman mould around in this very old design...PM if you want to try casting them with a single cavity mould...

Well it just pased through customs in Ville ST Laurent QC no problems. had CFC letter with it.
 
Well I just purchased this model #3 in 44 Russian as well when I have time I will do a comparison on the range between the 44Russian , 450 boxer and the 32-44 target and take some pics. I need a crony. any sugestions as to what one to buy never had one before.

its such a tiny gun :D cant ya post a pic we can enlarge!

I just bought the cheep green F1 chronygraph the most comon cheep one ya can get as you will probebly shoot it one day so why buy and expensive one. ;)

Thanks guys Here is a bit better pic should be here buy the end of next week so will hope fully get better pics up then . Dingus you're probably right I will end up shooting the crony. Hopefully not the first time out. David to find the folks at shooting chrony could you pm me some info please.

Thats Better! :) I got the same gun.
You will love it. Hard to #### the hammer with the same hand holding the gun tho. that hump gets in the way. I can do it but i have big hands.
But they just sit right in the hand then that hump helps alot!
and Accurate mine shoots .750 inch groups just a tatered hole at 25 Yds with its Mint bored 6.5 inch barrel.


if its bore is good your gona love shootin that gun.
i think there better than the NM#3s
 
Damn that is a beauty! I read that a lot have had the trigger guard spur removed so it is nice that yours still has it.
I should have my first antique in about a week ,a S&W .44 Russian DA from Dingus so I have been really keeping an aye on this thread.

I would think that so long as you always use the same chronometer that even a cheap one should give you good data. I am more familiar with engine dynos but we had one at the shop that was way off but it would work just as well for tuning a car because it was consistent.

Is that origional wells fargo chrome or a modern rework???

She looks so pristene I would be almost afraid to dirty her up......well almost;)

It is a re-nickel wish it wasn't but it would have cost me double if it was all original nickel . bore is decent with some pits but the grips are real and the mechanics are excellent and It just looks great in the show case. the blued one is in fact more valuable all original mint bore and blue is rarer than nickel. my 577 revolver went for the blued one but got good dollar on trade .
