Rifle vice

Any sort of suggestions for what sort of vice to buy for the workbench?

I just use a small vise from Cambodian Tire that I have glued gasket material on the jaws to make them soft jaws. Works fine for what I do and I probably change the "gaskets" every 6 months or so and I use it lots!

Also have an Outers Varminter Rifle Rest for scope mounting and cleaning.

You didn't say if you wanted a Chevy or a Cadillac-type vise.

A Decker gun vise has served me well for more than 20 yrs......don't know if they are still made..

Just don't call it a Gun Vise . . . maybe a pipe metal clamp . . . and don't spell "VICE".

It's not a gun part/scope/etc so it shouldn't matter if they're registered. But calling it a 'machinist tool' may be a good idea.

I have a 4" swivel vise with two pieces of 3/4" plywood and carpet scraps. They are removable,also have 2 pieces of lead sheeting to use as well.
All I've used for 30 years. JITC

That's what I use except instead of carpet, I use the sleeve off a sweat shirt for a buffer.
