I have read and heard rumors about people in the USA stocking up on AR15's
Are there any ar15 left for sale in the American dealer network ?Can any board members or dealers on the forum comment on the future supply of ar15's that will be available to the Canadian market ?

I was at Buffalo Gun Centre and I saw two people buying ARs. I was only there for 1/2 hour. I don't think the sky is falling just yet, but for the U.S folks, they sure are acting like it.

I think I'm saving up for a SIG....

I know a fellow shooter in the U.S. and here's what he told me as we were discussing the Obama impact on guns:

"Obama is anti gun and voted to ban everything including handguns. We will be looking at another ban in the US and it willl be permanant this time. People are stocking up like mad and hording everything."

"Right now dealers here are backordered so it is hard for us to get the stuff. You won't be seeing anything from us in a long time if ever."

I don't want to alarm anyone, but seeing how things are right now and considering that Obama hasn't passed any new laws yet, the future doesn't seem so bright. I'm not usually scared about those things, but this time I'm breaking my budget and I'm completing my next AR project before time while there are still few available goodies up here. The girlfriend won't like it, but better be safe than sorry.

Guns are selling like crazy in the US but they have been for months. Everyone knew this was coming down there and they've been buying in anticipation of new gun laws.

There is little doubt that the US will pass some form of Assault Weapons ban and that it may well be more limiting than the last one. That's a while off yet but people are already buying in expectation of that.

The manufacturers have been working overtime to build what they can before that all happens... even still they can't keep up with US demand. We've been telling folks for months that the backlog of AR orders has been slowley getting worse. Some accused me of spreading fear and distorting the facts... whatever.

Right now we are still getting AR's. There are some restrictions on what we can export from the US but that hasn't stopped everything... we're still getting some really nice configurations from RRA and in fact just got another shipment this weekend.

Prices have gone up. This is partly because almost every US manufacturer has raised their prices in the past month or two. Stipped lowers that were selling for as little as $120 and $130 US 12 months ago are now full retail and that's if you can find them. DPMS is now $189.95US and sold out everywhere (we have export permits but no-one has inventory)... Rock River is still $165.00 retail US but quoting 2 to 4 month delivery (we just got another shipment this weekend but these were ordered months ago).

Figure in the currency at nearly 1.30, add shipping, brokerage, permit costs, etc. and our $249.99 price is pretty good... equivalent to under $199 when currency was at PAR.

Rifles have done the same thing... RRA raised the price on ever single rifle in their catalogue... all parts, etc.. Even with that they still can't keep up with orders.

I did a check on Friday of 2 of the largest US Distributors in the US... they have almost nothing in inventory that's AR related. It was amazing to see that... it's the first time I've seen it like that. Expectations in the US are that it will continue.

We're getting stuff but it just takes a long time and we have to be happy with whatever we get. We'll be posting some items on our site this week. I don't expect them to last very long.

There's also Socom Supplies I believe although I'm not sure if they're only assemblers of US parts or they make their own stuff.

I believe Socom manufacturers their own lowers but adds other companies uppers but don't quote me on that. At least that is what I gathered from an email I fired them in the summer about getting a shorty (7.5").

Despite that, Mark is honest with his pricing. I know because he's the one making my "before time" AR project happen. Would you believe he sold me an upper he had in stock (before the dollar drop) at the "strong dollar" pricing? That is honest.

Thanks Mark!

I was at Reliable today in Vancouver. Shoulder to shoulder at ALL the counters. Everyone checking everything out. They had two AR's. I asked my clerk if it was always this busy on a Saturday. He said " It gets busier after 12:00 when everyone gets up."

I bought some HG ammo, a few grips, and holsters, and fled before I could do more damage to my Visa.

:D

Questar sold me a MRP piston for the same price as what would you pay in the US, IMO that's honest

That sounds like about average for Reliable on a Saturday, at least any of the times that I have been.
