Carbine Perfection?

I am using the wife's computer - mine is in the shop. I should be picking it tomorrow and will post a pic then.
Both LAV and KH said the accuracy potential from the 1911 platform is unrivaled - but it need a very skilled shooter to make use of it.
As well you need a good gun built with good parts - or your up a creek. The sad fact is there are more bad 1911 parts out there than bad AR15 parts.

Much has been made of the fact that SFOD-D "Delta" / CAG has gone to the Glock 22 in .40S&W. One of the issues is that someone (Kyle Lamb - cough) got them to built up .45 guns on the STI 2011 - which promptly fell apart - and the Glock was a convenient gun to use.
Time will tell if the S&W M&P45 will shove the G22 out - or a real 1911...

Kevin is right the 1911 is an accurate weapon. I've seen a 100m shot on a wine bottle that was quite amazing. And he is right in saying it needs a good hand to pull the trigger.

Vickers is a true operators "guru" in every sense. Some other products Vickers helped to develop that some people here might know:
HK416 carbine
HK417 battle rifle
HK45
HK45 Compact
Schmidt & Bender 1.1 - 4 x 20 CQB Short Dot scope
Surefire X200 series tactical light, Scoutlight tactical light
Insight Technology Inc. M3X weaponslight, M6X laser/weaponslight, ATPIAL infrared laser & illuminator

Clob - I put the LAV 1911 up in the pistol forum.

As for the manual of arms argument.
My take is - a bad decision well implemented is better than no decision at all.

You need to act -- I am a firm beleiver in transitioning if your primary goes down. A short gun in hand that works is better than no working gun.
For IA's I use TRB - Tap, Rack, Bang -
I dont push pull the mag - as I do that on a load - but feel its a waste on an IA.
Also I do 99% of drills with the gun in the 'pocket' - its easier to do while running (which if your gun aint working you should be running) get to cover or at least out of sight - and fix the gun while your doing it.

Thus your 'rack' will also be slightly canted - so any casing/obstruction should hopefully go overboard and clear. I typically use my hand slightly bladed and sweep the charging handle to the rear sharply.

The back to the fight -- or remedial actions.

And with the gun at this position your looking "over" it - so you can scan and see threat areas, or id good places to hide ;)

Must remember, while doing a reload, get off line. Don't stay in the same place, don't be a good target. Doesn't matter, if there is no cover, do something. Keep head up, always keep visual on target, even if you do have cover.

Kevin,

I hope the insides of your guns are cleaner than the outsides,
Either way your gun looks like shxt, I'd at least clean the lens of that fancy glass before posting pic's,

Rich

This is the point I was trying to make. Focusing on a skill such as reloading with the rifle seated rather than moving/moving to cover/ or simply getting the rifle running is not a priority.

TDC
If I am reading this right, it's not quite what I was trying to say. Getting the gun loaded is a priority. However, just don't stand there while doing it. Your feet move too, get them working. Too many times drills are done on a static range, with shooters in a line. Therefore not much emphasis is being put on any type of movement while doing a reload, usually out of safety considerations. There are drills that can be done.

Kevin

I know this is a bit of a necro post, however I have always really liked this configuration.

The builder in me has a couple of questions.

I was curious what fire control group did you end up using

You said you were expecting a new barrelm what barrel did you end up going with.

Thanks in advance.

regards

AbH
