Just came in the mail today:dancingbanana: Springfield GI .45 OD Green...fit and finish are flawless. I'm typically a Colt type of guy, but I love the look of the GI .45 in OD Green. Taking it to the range with 4 boxes of 230 gr. ball.

Good call. You'll love it! Be prepared for it to draw blood on the web of your hand if you don't wear gloves! That's half the fun. I really enjoyed my Springfield GI when I had it. I'm waiting for a Stainless GI to come my way. I wanted a USGI model as a shooter so I picked up the AO. Pics for your enjoyment:

I actually never had "hammer bit" believe it or not. Both my Colt series 70 Repro, or my GI .45...never any problems what so ever. I was supprised to see that my GI only came with one mag...but I have two 8-round shooting star mags that functioned flawlessly.

I just LOVE the OD Green finish, and I actually love the "GI" grips too...call it cheezy, but I think they look cool. Another issue is the sights. I found them VERY accurate, and easy to get a sight picture. 25 yard human sized targets, consistant hits on centre-mass, even 8-round mags all head-shots at 25 yards. Very accurate pistol, and no malfunctions at the range yesterday with FMJ's, hollows, and "truncan-cone" Winchester BEB's.

Very impressed with Springfield's GI .45 being it's "entry-level" no-frills 1911.
