I've ben shooting 240JSP's (WW) for years now, but I am in a new area that has some big blackies.....I shot a 350 and a 280 lb, 15 seconds apart, with the first bullet hitting the big one at 15 feet

Seems I was between where they were, and where they wanted to go.

Anyway, the 240's did their job (Broke the front right shoulder of the first one, then took out the heart, double lung on the second) but I'd rather have a mag full of something with a little more "oomph". Cast are out (semi), but I see there are some 270-300 gr. loads around.....any experience? The only thing I have to watch for is OAL so they fit in the mag.

I gave the 300 gr Nosler a try, but they are probably better in a .444 as the position of the cannelure leaves too much shank in the case resulting in marginal case capacity with H-110. The 300 gr Sierra is a bullet I like very much, but on the box it says not to use in rifles. Give the Sierra tech line a call to find out why. Maybe they just want to ensure velocity doesn't exceed 2000 fps, if so they should just say so. The 265 gr Hornady sounds like the best choice if the Sierra doesn't work out.

+ 1 for Hornady 265Gr. You can get near 1700 FPS and 1700 FP of energy. This bullet keep most of its weight but still make a good expansion. accuracy is deerminute of angle, anyway, when you hunt with a short range rifle, you dont really need the 100 yards super accuracy.

This bullet is a proven performer in the 444 too.

Hmmmm....any factory loadings available? :)

I am shooting a 200 grain XTP Hdy and it shoots very well out of my Marlin 1895. I find it is very flat shooting out to 200yds. I am loading it in Winchester Brass, Win Primers, and IMR 4227 Powder. It stinks when you shoot it but it is very accurate.
