How to mount scope?

Well, I finally decided to try precision shooting. I have my 308 SPS Varmint in the mail and I just got my Bushnell 3200 10X40 scope.

What is the best way to mount this? I bought Burris 1" Z rings with the scope. Are these the best way to mount the scope? Should I be using Leopold?

And do I need a Harris swivel bipod? Or will a cheaper bipod do?

On an SPS or any 700 I like the Leupold QRW bases and PRW rings, good solid setup for reasonable $$

Go with a versapod, way better than the harris IMO
 
On a 308 you should have a decent bipod. The recoil is ruff on bipods. Look around on the EE they float around there once in a while cheaper than new.
 
Buy quality - buy once!

You just spent some serious coin on a nice rifle, why by a crappy bipod.

Harris is outstanding in quality - only ones I use with the exception of the Parker Hale bipods and handstops I own as well.

The Burris "Z" rings are nice rings - won't nick or marr your tube, and you can get the moa inserts to use for long distance shooting.

One guy suggested using a Picatinny 1903 rail? Another said it won't be stable enough and it will throw the scope off?

Is there any base i can use with the Burris rings that will be "almost" as good as the Leopold set up?

The Picc rail is no good for weaver base rings, which you have - 2 different mount configurations - dimensionally different.

You'll need either a weaver base or go to a different system altogether.

Without blowing the bank on high end rings and base - Leupold as suggested before has numerous choices. A good set of steel rings and 1 piece base is never a bad choice.

Also depends if you want to be tacticool or are just wanting a good solid mounting system. I use Badger rings and bases on everything I own. I've just recently tried a Nightforce base, I really like it as well - just depends how much you want to spend.

+1 for lapping, even expansive rings need it :)

get the Leupold QRW rings....they are made of steel, great for the dollar spent, also - one piece scope base Ken Farrel or Warne :)
 
Before tightening it all down, check your eye relief.

Also check that your vertical is, well, vertical. I hang a weighted neon cord from the neighbour's window frame, put an angle finder on the rifle to ensure its level, then line up the cross hair with the cord - maybe dont use the neighbours window. Other ways too.

Two piece bases can be good too and may make it easier to load an internal mag.
 
I have a Leupold LR mounted in Burris Signature Zee Rings on a Pic. rail and it is fine. The rings hold tight on the scope without marking it, and the rings do not move in the mount. The slots cut in a Pic. rail are larger than a weaver rail; just make sure when you mount it that you place the rods from the rings up against the edges of the rail and you should be fine. I have had mine set up this way for 2 years now and it has never moved POI on me once.
 
Thanks for the responses guys. I ordered the Leopold rings and base tonight. I spoke with an ex British sniper who had a lot of good info and suggested the Leopold as well.
