Will there be another HK P7 PSP shipment coming to Canada?

Hi,

I want to buy something for myself by the end of the year. Really hoping to get one of those HK P7s.

Do you think there will be any more shipments of the P7 PSP coming to Canada? Do they come from time to time, or are they just gone for good because they won't be any more police trade-ins?

Should I spend X2 money on the P7M8?

I don't like the plastic heat shield, but I can't find any of the PSPs around any more.

Thanks.

Have you tried Wolverine Supplies? I was in there a little while ago and they had a few PSPs. They might have been used and I don't know if they still have them. Wolverine Supplies has other HK P7 pistols if you can't get a PSP.

I thought they've been sold out in canada for quite some time.

Even in america they seem to be sold out everywhere. I know the suppliers are sold out.

Unless a new shipment of german police trade-ins comes to north america, I don't think we'll be seeing large numbers available anytime soon.

I've seen them from time to time in the EE. I bought mine from ricka2, he's had a few more listed since I bought mine.

Terry,

IMO it's not worth paying twice the price of a P7 for an M8.

When I received my first Lower Saxony Police (surplus) import from CDNN I was overwhelmed at how accurate it is, and how much I enjoyed shooting it.

I was impressed enough that I wanted more, (while they were readily available) and my options were to buy 2 more "A" grade P7's, or one HK P7M8. I got on several USA forums (The High Road/Firing Line/Parkcitiestactical), and others seeking input as to which way to go.

The general consensus was that if you are "into" collecting, the M8 would be the best route to take, but if you were "into" pleasure plinking, or carrying the pistol for self defense the P7 was the better choice.

Or, if you are buying the HK to look at and expect to appreciate then no doubt putting your money on a pristine HK P7M8 would be wise.

But I don't "collect" guns, I buy them to shoot and enjoy. The heat shield on the M8's will not stop heat, it just slows it down, or delays it a bit.. The dual grip mounted safeties of the M8 attract some, others prefer the European Heel Release. The triggerguard of the P7 is slightly smaller, and it seems knowledgeable folks who carry the P7 are of the opinion it is slightly easier to carry concealed.

I have found that if you are looking for a point when the HK P7 gets pretty warm then firing 5-6 mags in rapid sequence will do it for you. My buddies and I were shooting my P7 when I first got it, and after about two mags each the pistol started warming up to the point you would think a couple of more mags fired in a row and it would be uncomfortable to shoot.

I know you probably don't do this in Canada (or most can't), but here I use the P7 as my concealed carry weapon some of the time. I don't have an extra mag with me, and I consider a capacity of 8+1 sufficient to resolve any (hopefully none) potential situations. So, a pistol that warms up, or gets blazingly hot after more than 2 mags is of no concern to me.

My choice is not necessarily the choice another person would make. I just think the P7 "looks better", and that's why I bought three of them. No problem with M8's, I just would rather have two "A" grade P7's than one M8.

But, that's just me.

You pays you money, and takes you choice. :) Either way you wind up with a fantastic firearm.

Hope you can find one. Oh yeah, try and get all the mags you need when you buy the pistol because sometimes extra mags are a bit hard to find.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

If you want a rare piece there is a guy on the EE named WHYLOOK that has one or two P7 M13's left. These are new in box and are 2000.00 taxes and shipping included. Now there is a hard to find pistol.

No problem with P7M8 heat shield at all. Had both and M8 is way to go - ergonomics is way better. Does it worth 2xPSP - for some people yes, for others no.
Cannot go wrong with M8 and I think additional cost is justified.

Just my thought.

Igor.

How so? It has a longer trigger guard & the mag release is different, but way better???

Yah... I agree. They are "way similar". In fact, they are the same gun reconfigured for different markets. One for German police. One for the U.S. civilian market.

I have a PSP. I've shot a variety of M8's. The heatsheild is a non issue IMHO. They just don't heat up quickly enough for it to really come into play. If you have 10 mags and you bang them all off in a row... the last couple of mags.. the gun will be getting pretty hot... but who does that? I've never seen anyone use a P7 in a practical shooting match.

The mag release.... it actually works well. I am not totally sold on some heel release mags (SIG P210, P230, etc.) but the HK design works well. It's actually very intuitive and fast.

The bigger trigger guard would only ever come into play with gloves... and even then... big gloves.

The ergonomics of the two guns are the same. As I mentioned before, the guns are the same - just different configuration.

P7 PSP is a steal at $850. P7M8 is also a good gun. It's major downside is that it is like getting 1 gun for the price of 2. But for some it is going to be well worth it. I don't deny that.

Hi Jesse,

That was very good advice. Thanks.

For me, the "original P7" is always better than the later mod model for the US market.

Terry:

Here's what gave me an immediate appreciation for the HK P7.

That is a photo of the results of the first 8 round magazine I fired through my first HK P7.

I'd never fired a "squeezecocker" before, and I was just trying to determine poa/poi to see what adjustment might be necessary for windage/elevation.

I shot from only 7 yards (self defense range for me), I was resting my two hand grip on the frame of my wife's golf cart. I'm a senior citizen, declining vision and less than steady hands, so I was amazed and happy with the accuracy of the fine P7. (My other two I got later are just as accurate).

I'm of the opinion that a better marksman would blow the center out of the target..

Best Wishes,

Jesse
