Hello all GunNutz

did a quick search and did not really find what I was looking for so I thought I would ask for your opinions, I am looking to get my first shotgun, I have fired the nova or the supernova before, do not remember which on it was, and I very much liked it, so my question is what is the main difference between the two, and is the supernova worth the extra $150.

sorry, but now I have a follow up question, since I am new to shot guns, I was curious to the pros and cons of the different barrel lengths, since I can get his gun in 24, 26, and 28 inch barrels, this gun will be used as a fun range gun as well down the road for goose/grouse hunting.

Thanks for your opinions

Nova has a regular stock, supernova has recoil reduction system in the stock. IMO the supernova is the way to go. I am looking at getting one myself! You can find more info on these guns on the Benelli website. Cheers

yeah when I was reading up on both of them on their website that was really the only thing that stood out to me, that I why I was curious if there were any other changes then the stock

thanks for the help

i had a nova tactical and switched to a supernova tactical, the nova is a great shotgun but the supernova is beefier and came with the pistol grip stock and ghost rings i wanted. both of these would serve you well and are both very slick platforms.

That is not the only difference. The Supernova has the butt stock attached to the receiver like a conventional stock and comes with shims so you can raise or lower the comb and do cast on or cast off. The Nova does not really have a regular stock or a conventional stock. The butt stock is one peice that includes the top of the receiver or action cover.

The 28" is likely the most popular length, and a definite advantage, IMHO, for waterfowling. To my way of thinking any 12 ga. pump is unwieldy for grouse hunting ... but for general use, the 26" or 28" will do quite nicely.

Thanks beretta boy for the input, looks like I will have to go and hold both of them and see what one feels better in the hands, appreciated for your help

Benelli Nova vs SUPER Nova

I have two Benelli Novas and like them both. Very reliable shotguns that can stand continous use.

Just because a manufacturer call his product "SUPER" does not mean it is better. Benelli could have called it the "Nova 2" but that does not have the same advertising impact.

The "Super Nova" is nothing more than a different model with some new features. It has the a reducing stock which is also more robust. If those features are important to you, buy that model.

The standard Benelli Nova can have have a mercury recoil reducing tube installed in the stock. I have that feature in both my Benelli Novas and it works very well.

The most important aspect of a shotgun is how well it feels and points. As pointed out in earlier posts, try them both and buy the one that feels right for you. Don't let the word "SUPER" influence your decision.

Cheers, and good hunting.

I own a Nova. The super nova would be a better choice as with the 3.5 s you'll end up shooting, you'll need all the recoil protection you can get.

Opening day of goose always leaves my right shoulder purple.

That or get a good butt pad or limb saver.

Cheers.

Mike

One thing to keep in mind is that the receiver of the nova is longer than say an 870. The overall length of a 26" barrel Nova is similar to an 870 with a 28" barrel. I have a 26" and I wouldn't want anything longer.

I have a 28" barrel SuperNova, and it's absolutely perfect for waterfowl and clays. I'd love to have a 24" barrel for grouse, but the 28" barrel is versatile enough that it works very well for almost anything.

thanks all again, I must say I was leaning towards a shorter barrel, I figured it would swing easier and easier to get on target, but this is just a subjective assumptions as I have never hunted before, lets say if I did get the 24" barrel would I be giving up accuracy much or would my shot spread open up much more compared to the 28" with the same chokes (apologize again, really new to shotguns)

welllll you could always install the recoil reducer

benelli supernova

The benelli SuperNova is a great shotgun. I just recently bought one and shot a few slugs through it, looks and feels great. Unfortunately, I'm selling it because I don't enjoy shooting shotguns as much as I used to and also because I got into shooting rifle and enjoy it all that much more :)

its listed in the EE - good price too!

I had the Nova Tactical and the build quailty is really top notch. However it just kicked weird. I read about it on the net before I bought it. They were saying it kicked like a mule.
I have owned many shotguns over the years, and have never once been bothered by recoil, but that Nova had a really sharp recoil. All the people I let shoot it said the same. I now have a 590A1 and what a difference, it feels like half the recoil.
