Which 44mag - Dan Wesson Or S&w??

Thanks for the replies guys and the clarification on the sa/da. Never fired a Ruger before, and I'm not quite sure how I'll like it. I already own a S&W 586, and I love the way it shoots and the way it fits in my hand, maybe I'll go with the 29-5. I'm not planning on shooting huge loads in it as well. Probably 240gr. Do you think the S&W would hold out fine with these?? What do you guys shoot??

The newer Smiths will hold up fine. Some of the older ones have shook loose after a lot of full power shooting but in my mind, it's hardly worth considering.

Now after all that get a Smith, call Brownells and get a Miculeck spring kit and enjoy the buttery soft action in your revlolver just before unleashing the very fires of Prometheus (load some up with W 296 :eek:)
 
I have a pair of Super Blackhawks, a 7 1/2 " Bisley, a 10 1/2" standard, and a Model 29 8 3/8". For strength the Rugers win, but the Smith is as smooth as you could ever want.I generally shoot a medium load with a 240 gr. SWC. The single actions are generally easier on the hand as well
 
Smith & Wesson vs Dan Wesson

I've own many Smith & Wessons and have owned a couple of Dan Wessons.

I wasn't impressed with the Dan Wessons I owned & didn't keep them long.

Is Dan Wesson still in business?

Never see a new one being offered for sale.

If Dan Wesson is kaput, it is apparent their product was not in great demand.

From what I understand they had some problems a while ago, and were under different ownership. Now CZ america owns them. Still, I didn't see any revolvers on their website for sale, just 1911's.

All the ones I've had have been of the older vintage. Being a Keith fan, I've put a lot of his loads through them and haven't had a problem yet. The only model of Smith I have had problems with is the model 19 and its close cousin, the model 66. While I do like the gun, it hasn't fared pounding a good amount of heavy loads through it.
 
Back when we were using them for silhouette shooting, the S&Ws didn't hold up that well. Rugers and DWs lasted the longest before going out of time. Having said all that, you have to shoot a LOT of full bore loads before you will loosen one up. A 4" 29 balances about the best in my hand, so go with what feels best to you. - dan
 
I have a Dan Wesson 6 inch stainless in .357 magnum. Dan Wesson does make a more accurate, stronger action. The easily removable barrel, adjustably cylinder gap, post-tension barrel and shroud system, and extra thick cylinders make the Dan Wesson absolutely the darling of dedicated target pistol shooters, particuarly in the IHMSA discipline.

That doesn't mean S&W doesn't make excellent and innovative products, but much of the innovation is more along the lines of concealed carry pistols, like the ladysmith, or the airweight models using scandium alloy frames. It's snubby's are second to none...but alot of us can't take advantage of these amazingly innovative, but prohibited in Canada, firearms.

Dan Wesson is a straight up target revolver built for hard pounding and tight groups, and being a target shooter, I wouldn't trade mine for anything, except maybe a CCW.

Having trouble anyways... Was trying to buy the S&W, the guy says he wont start the transfer untill he recieves all $$ first. Usually, when I buy, they initiate the transfer, and give me a reference #. I complete my end with the cfc, and then ship funds. After the funds arrive, they then ship the gun. Is this not the normal protocol?? I know this person only by their first name through another gun site, and they live in bc, im in ont... He doesn't seem to want to play ball unless the $$$ come 1st, then he says he'll start the transfer. Any thoughts on this?? Anyone? Seems like a pretty foolish thing, to give $$$ to some dude I don't even know...
If my logic seems incorect, let me know. What do you guys normally do? And why is he not on here if he's such a big gun show trader like he says? Isnt this the biggest website in canada for gunnutz :)?
