do tactical shotguns work for hunting

im wondering this because i like the look of the tactical shotgun but would use it primarily for clay and hunting. id also like it to autoload. or does any one have a good suggestion.
 
You can do whatever you want with whatever you want.

Theres plenty of people here who hunt with their "tactical" rifles.

Everything from things like ar-180's, sig specials, cz858's to police tactical rifles like 700P's. If thats what you want to do, dont let the PC crowd convince you otherwise.

Functionwise, it might not be 100% the setup your looking for however.

A 12.5" open choke shotgun witha surefire and a redoot isnt going to be the best hunting shotty, but I'd be happy to prove that it can and will get you meat on your plate.
 
I think a 12"barrel,fold able stock would be your best choice for a hunting shot gun. Buy a real hunting or clay gun,not as cool but more function able if you are hunting.Buy the tacticool as a special gun.
 
Buy whatever you want, but you should realize that wingshooting and clays are pursuits of athleticism. I would use a short barrel shotgun if that's all I had, but you are needlessly handicapping yourself buying a gun not suited to your intended sport. A good clays or bird gun is well balanced, fits without "aiming" and is an extension of the shooters hand/eye coordination. So-called "Tactical" shotguns are designed to be aimed, not pointed and swung. Stock design, balance, and sight picture are all ill suited to wing shooting. But they can be pressed into service. You can also play hockey with golf clubs!
 
Never done it myself but here's my shotgun, I would imagine given the barrel work and sighting options a skilled Hunter could deliver some serious payload...

The target has no idea about the cost or configuration of the gun you are using. It only knows if the pellets are on the mark. A "tactical" gun is probably more suited to using as a slug gun for deer hunting but they can and do work for wingshooting although probably not as well as other guns.

Wad da ya mean that the target has no idea of the cost or configuration? How do ya think it would feel to be a white flyer waiting his/her turn to be flung into the wild blue and to hear the call from the man with the TM1:runaway:
 
This is a weird thread. Is somebody trying to justify buying a "tactical" gun as a functional hunting gun?......to the wife perhaps?...LOL
 
I use my 870 Marine Magnum for shooting the odd grouse when I'm driving around, but if I strongly prefer my SuperNova for actual hunting (wingshooting birds, rabbits, etc).

The tactical gun would work better than nothing, but wouldn't be my first choice as a 'do-all' gun...

You are right! It is weird! It probably has more to do with the economy:dancingbanana: and therefore the wife thing:D, is even a bigger deal.:mad:
 
myself and a good buddy shoot trap with out valtro PM5's :D
i am quite good at it and he's getting the hang of it just fine...

i also shoot stationary clay's at 35-50yrd's with slug's no problem....
shot me a few chikkins with it....
he has shot pig silly's at 35yrd's with 00 buck and zombie silly's at 50 with slug's no problem... i would take my "tactical" shotgun out any time for any purpose... otherwise it would be like dateing a hooker.... fun to play with but useless when #### get's serious.
