No you don't have to be a member to buy a hand gun..I just bought a hand gun and I am not yet a member of a club..I'm in Toronto I don't know where you are because it might be different for you..

You need to be a member of a club to get an ATT to go to and from a club yes..But you can buy a gun and the store will give you a one way ATT from place of purchase to your address..

Here in BC they will not process the registration transfer unless you belong to a gun club/range and provide them with sufficient information regarding this. (eg. your range membership)

You must also declare what the intended purpose of the restricted firearm is. (target shooting)

The store doesn't give you a one way ATT, but the CFO might fax the temorary ATT to the store.

You can talk to the dealer - they will have had recent experience with transfers, or you could call the CFO in Orillia and get it chapter and verse from them.

Ok we all know thats what I ment...When you buy a gun they will have a temp ATT with your gun....

Wow,

You guys are awesome, thanks for the quick replies.

I'm in Brampton (Ontario) and would like to get the one way ATT that John mentioned. I'll speak to Shooters Choice (Dealer) and see what they say.

Thanks again for all the help. I'm new to the site but there's a lot of helpful people and information here.

I know a guy at Hwy 10 and Qew that gets hand guns if you want to deal with him let me know...He works out of his house and you can go there and look and handle them too..Older guy and he knows his $hit;)

Qew & Hwy10 Dealer

Hay superbike hope im not bug n ya but i would like to check out that dealer. I also ride and drag race we could maybe hook up talk some #### and you could introduce me to this guy. Ive had my R-PAL 7 months and bought 10 guns. just getten started still nead more toys. I like the good stuff so if all he has is old junk i would rather not wast my time and yours. THANKS

Well for the next time the place is called Legendary Fire Arms (905)891-6772 His name is Doug..He works out of his house...He got me my Att in 4 days..Check him out..And he can also order in what you need...

Thanks john but the down payment has already been made.

P.S. In the end Shooters Choice doesn't have a problem with the one way/temp ATT. They suggested a club because I will have to go through the process of re-applying if ever I decide to join a gun club/shooting range.
Did they tell you how long it will be to get it approve so you can pick it up?

My first gun was Beretta, and it took at least 3 weeks to get the ATT. That was crazy long. I bought it at Giovanni.

What do you guys think about Giovanni in term of price and service?

Wow this thread just saved me two months of unneccesary waiting. I'll be buying a handgun this weekend even though my club membership won't be finalized until at least Late Jan.

Of course that might be even worse. Being able to see it everyday but not being able to shoot it.
