Building the next rifle, and am bouncing around various stocks. I don't want a true BR stock, instead I'm interested in a prone style stock I can "crawl into", like a McMillan A5 or ?? I will be using a Barnard 2.8" Model S and a 28" Krieger #17A with a 1" muzzle in 6.5 cal.

Ian R., your new Master Class F-Class stock looks very close to what I have in mind. Interested in your thoughts...

Thanks.

Rick, You're building my dream rig.....

I had looked at the Barnard with one of Ian's Master Class F-Class stocks awhile back when I was getting dejected with the Rem action I was shooting. (Turned out it was the barrel was toast)

If I was going for a No Holds Barred full F-Class build from scratch I would build exactly what you have mentioned.

If you need someone to test it out for you when it's all built....just send it down my way. I'll make sure everything is working as it should. :D

Rear bag, and am (was) leaning toward a Rempel "ski pod" bipod. But in researching it seems the top F Class shooters universally use a front rest, not a bipod. ?? Is that correct, and what would you recommend? Thanks.

Yes, most of the top F class shooters use a front rest. If you want a good one talk to Bob Pastor. He's a member of this forum.

F class stock

Hi Rick
Here is a pic of my brothers Robertson he got this summer, very nice stock, would be hard to find a better stock than this one. I am not sold on his Remple rest as he got into some problems at Kingston Shoot this fall, He had shot a perfect score at 300m all V bulls but at 600 the ground was to low for remple and he had to use plastic and wood pieces inder ski's didn't work well at all I have seen Dale Rathwell's remple which was modified with higher and wider ski's seemed to work very good for him in Wisconsin this summer. I prefer the old Hart front rest I use but its very heavy.

Heh,

We make a number of F stocks for use with a front rest and also bipod. First is the SG&Y which is now retailed by Stiller, 2nd is the Master Class F which is sold by Master Class in the USA and by us in the rest of the world and the GBF which we sell world wide. These are all designed for front rest. For bipod any of our prone stocks are suitable and we will add a parallel rod to the bottom of the butt to ride a rear bag.
We also have a TAC stock which is ambidextous and would work well for F as well. Remple makes the best bipod there is and I am good friends with several shooters that use bipods and really kick some serious butt with them.

That shoot F(O) almost universally use a front pedestal rest. Keeps the weight in the rifle. Or more correctly, in the barrel.

For those that must or choose a bipod, the Remple is THE one on the market at this time.

What was described about the uneven ground is a big reason why the pedestal rest is so often used too. You can raise/lower to meet pretty much any terrain that would fall loosely into the flat category.

I can raise my forend 10". That's enough me thinks.

I also carry a spare rear bag that I can use to raise the one I normally use. You just never know what the terrain features will be like.

Nice looking stocks. Make sure it fits and feels naturally when you get into position. The stock fits you, not the other way around.

I have found for me, dropping the rear of the stock was paramount to getting a good fit. Otherwise, the stock sat too low in my bags. Different height combos plus body shapes require different parameters.

What stock

I got one of Ian's H&H stocks off of him and love it, another nice one is the Pro 1000 or Master 1000 I think. Might be calling him for another just after christmas. He also has Bernard actions, I got an "s" model off of him.

Mike.
