Lately I have been watching some hunting programs, and every once in a while they show a hunter using a crossbows.

Can you hunt with a crossbow in Canada?

If you can, what provinces are you allowed to hunt with a crossbow?

What would be the guidelines for hunting with a crossbow, kind of bolts, power of the bows, and maximum distance for a shot?

I Believe i heard they couldn't be used on bowen island either, just long bows. But i'd have to double check - that island is chock full of anti's.

Legal in Ontario and the deer season opens either in Sept or very early Oct and goes until Dec 31. Sunday gun hunting is new in some parts of Ontario but you could always bow hunt on Sundays. Bow season is closed during the rifle and shotgun season.

I was not aware of this regulation. Are you sure? Can anyone else verify this? I looked quickly through the regs & couldn't find this specific restriction.

The bow season does NOT close during the gun season. BUT you must wear blaze when bow hunting during the gun season. (Ont Regs)

You are correct. No compound bows either. I guess a long bow is somehow less dangerous. Oh well, let the deer inter breed and eat all of 'organic' gardens, there's lots of other places to hunt in BC.:)
