thinking about getting a new toy, narrowed it down to either a puma 92 (winchester clone) in 45 colt or a CZ527 in 7.62x39.

uses would be plinking and deer hunting.

Do you own a 45 Colt handgun? What is the distance you will be shooting? I have a Puma in 357 Mag that I love, but I bought it primarily for rifle practice with my 38 Special reloads.

The CZ rifle is sure a handy little bush gun. If you want one, it may pay to get it soon as the US State Dept has made getting anything in 7.62X39 difficult to export from the US.

527 are super nice little rifles, it would get my vote
I'd never seen or handled one until a customer spec ordered one. After seeing it, I was quite impressed. I usually carry my M94 38/55 in the bush but I might have to get one of these. Hard to keep in stock, not many brought into Canada, apparently. My buddies see them and get them as fast as we can clear the new US state dept rules! :0

i'm still wrestling with this, i have handled the 527 and while nice it is not nearly the gun that the older brnos are. are the CZ's being imported via the US? since they are made in the czech republic.

I'm very happy with my CZ527 American, acquired through importer London Arms, and I think they're getting them direct from the Czech Republic.

have you got any problems cycling 38? i find myself using my swiss knife alot of times when i "speed" shoot the puma.. very frustrating:mad:

and id have to ask... why 45 colt? you like to find yourself in an adventure whenever you want to buy ammo? (if you dont reload)

i don't think the 357 has quite enough jam and the 44 magnum has never appealed to me. and the 454 version of the 92 has that ugly recoil pad and goofy safety on the bolt. so, by a process of elimination, that leave the 45 colt.

i am not concerned about ammo since i reload, plus any well stocked gunshop will have 45 colt ammo.

All of the CZ's coming into Canada? Because mine came with Czech language documentation, which I would think odd if they were all coming from the USA.

No, not all, but most will have the Kansas City part marked into the reciever. All are made overseas but most come through MO and most are marked that way. Some distributors may have them coming staight in to Canada. We have at least one Carbine 7.62X39 in stock and I'll check(excuse the pun) to see how its marked.

Ok, thanks. Mine lacks the Kansas City markings, and came from London Arms.

I've got a lot in stock, all from KC, and some have the mark, others don't. Not sure how much it means anyway. I suppose they could make some for the 'Americian market', mark them KC, then still bring them straight into Canada to avoid paying duites twice.
