I have decided to go with a Versapod for my starter rifle. What are your opinions on bipod height? I set up on the floor with some blocks and 6 inches felt right to me. I will be shooting up to 800 metres (eventually:D). I don't want to buy something too tall and be straining to be up that high.

The type of feet are the other issue. Ski feet or rubber? I won't be shooting off a bench.

Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Speaking as someone who owns both types of bipod feet - all a matter of personal choice.

The versapod is a copy of the parker hale - I own 3(parker hale) of em and have always liked the way they sit on the ground - They make rubber slip on feet though for when you don't want to slide all over on hard surface.

The harris style rubber feet are excellant as well - never had a problem with them on any type surface.

The standard height 6-9" will serve you well for all situations. I'm a big guy in the chest and have never had a problem with my parker hales at all.

HTH, Carl

I don't know for Versapod, but with Harris I would tell you to go for 6-9".

For the feet, I would avoid skis. This sound like the worst concept ever for bipod legs to me... How can you possibly put some forward pressure on the bipod if it keeps sliding!? Pick rubber. There are aftermarket feet that has some points and do an incredible job on soft surfaces if you want something better.

i just got a versa pod style bipod yesterday ( buffalo river branded ) with rubber feet .
well i took it out and shot some magpies .. i love it , i like it better than the harris style simply because you have the ball joint type movement when the pod is deployed

The versapods come in 5-7" 7-9" and 9-12".

I am leaning towards the 7-9". I thought the rubber may wear out on the ground and might be for top of slippery surfaces, benches, carhoods whatever.

Thanks for the help.

I'd go for the 7-9". And rubber won't wear out just like that... it isn't THAT soft. ;)
