My order finally came in! YAY for me! There is no way I'll get any sleep the next couple of days. I'm sooooooo fricken excited. My first handguns. My LTATT is due next week so I'll provide a range report later.
My guns are:
1. SIG P220 all stainless in .45 ACP from Questar (Thanks Mark and Sal)
2. Ruger GP 100 .357 all stainless from P&D ( Thanks Phil)
3. Ruger GP 100 .357 blued w/ wolf springs (Thanks CGN EE)
First up: Sig P220
The packaging:
Without even firing it, this is hands down my favourite gun. It is DA/SA wich IMHO is the best choice due to versatility. I can carry (yeah right) with a round chambered, but the hammer down in DA mode, or for even the first shot I can #### the hammer manually for SA mode. Obviously every subsequent shot is SA. The wood grips that come with the elite are far too beautiful for a gun that I'll use. After a pic or two, I removed them for some Hogue grips.
The wood grips:
The inside of them...
...and the outside
Field stripped. I notice good QA as all edges were smooth, the finish is nice on everything, and I could find no burrs, shavings or anything else of the sort. The rails came with what I can only imagine is lithium grease on the rails, and I can tell by the barrel fouling that at least 1 test shot was made with the gun.
First Impressions: The gun is beautiful and I adore stainless steel. This gun fits my large hands perfectly. Way better than the M&P and way way better than my GP100s.
The trigger pull is nice enough in DA and is excellent in SA. Pics of the average trigger pull...
in double action avg of ten pulls 11lbs 1.5 oz
In Single action avg of ten pulls 4lbs 9.6 oz
I will say I was surprised that the hammer is "flingy", in that is does not rest in a solid way after coming down on the firing pin, but as long as the trigger is pressed, it can fling forward if you press it and you can see it "fling" as you press the trigger. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet, but if you want to get a feel for what this looks like, just imagine in your minds eye the hammer moving forward in slow motion and say to yourself "boingoingoingoingoingoing" and you get the drift. I'm also not sure about the SRT or short reset trigger. Without a non-SRT sig to compare I would guess that SRT is short for "supremely retarded trademark". The reset doesn't feel short. In fact it feels long compare to my revolvers. I wonder what the original one were like.
With a standard 8 rnd mag...
With the optional 10rnd mags I picked up from Questar....
The complete package w/ Blackhawk SERPA CQC holster (love it)...
I tried to take a pic of the night sights, but even with a tripod, I can't get a long enough exposure. Let me say that the sig light night sights the Elite comes with are more than adequate in low light and no light. I can see them clearly either way.
...and now my pair of GP 100's...
Dueling Pistols?
The trigger pulls on the blued one w/ wolf spring kit (again avg of 10 pulls)
in d/a...
in s/a...
The Brand New completely stock stainless steel GP100...
in d/a...
in s/a...
Up close....
Can't go wrong with HKS speed loaders.
I hope you find this gun #### as "satisfying" as I did. *fap fap fap fap....
random XCR pic for the climax....
Ahhhhhh......
